  1. Well the same thing happened to me....mine was a mangled piston that was bad enough to make it do what yours is doing but good enough to keep it running. BTW mine was a fresh top end as well but the guy who did it (the guy I bought the bike from) must have got a little trash into the cylinder or something. Might pull the jugs and check the pistons just for good measure. I would not run it at all till you determine the problem. GL
  2. They do.
  3. I hate to tell you this, but mine was doing the same thing switched the plugs still the right side, switched the wires still the same side, checked carbs clean, put new plugs in still the same. Mine would only run on half choke and would die on full or no choke. Turned out to be a craked skirt on the right side. Mine also had coolant coming out the exhaust which is why I changed the head gasket and it still did the same but worse. I hope its not a piston but if it is go to magicracing.com they have a complete top end rebuild kit with everything you need for $180. Good luck hope its not that serious, just thought I would share what happened to me.
  4. Boom! Glad to hear you got it running!  I wish I could ride even though its like 30 degrees down here, I would still go ride.
  5. No, the price I stated in the earlier post was for labor only. I should have been a little more clear in my above post, thats my bad. Grand total for top end rebuild, carb cleaning and axle bearing was $459.90....and yes its a COMPLETE top end rebuild kit from magicracing.com everything needed is included for a complete top end rebuild. $250 Labor $209.90 Parts Yeah he has 25 years exp working on ATVs and dirt bikes 4 and 2 stroke and knows his shit, he used to own a shee and when I dropped mine off he was like damn I miss my old shee. I will PM you his info and when you can contact him because he works nights at DFW.
  6. No sir. New pistons, rings, pins, clips, new gaskets all of them and bearings. Complete top end. I know enough that I would'nt just replace one of them. Hell the top end kits are easy to find and for the most part pretty cheap. I figured I would have him do it all since it all comes in the top end rebuild kit. BTW, magicracing.com for the win on the Wiseco piston kit!!
  7. So I broke down and took the shee to a guy a budy of mine recomended. Man is this guy the shit and cheap too! Anyways found the problem.....cracked right side piston and thankfully NO damage to the rods or crank as the piston didnt quite completely break...whew! I will post pics of the piston when I get the shee back from my mechanic. Just wanted to let all know whats going on and what the problem was. Thanks again to all who tried to assit me in my troubleshooting. This site kicks ass!!
  8. I can refer you to my mechanic...he does bad ass work and is cheap as hell. He resides in Grapevine. He is only charging me $250 for labor on a complete top end rebuild, cleaning the carbs and changing out my rear axle bearing. I can PM you his info and number if you wish.
  9. Yes for sure do not use any starting fluid....the guy I bought my bike from used it and it fried my reeds(I think) that is the only thing me and my mechanic can think of why the reeds were covered in a black flaky shit. Im in the same boat as you got to ride my shee for one day then it wouldnt idle or run for shit....turned out the be the right side piston skirt! So 1 day of riding $2200 for the shee, plus $250 for labor and $259.90 for parts. Oh yeah my rear axle bearing was about to sieze too. Check those carbs or just give 'em some love taps with a good 'ol screw driver and if that dont fix 'em tear 'em down and clean them bisches! Sorry didnt mean to thread jack just feel your pain!!
  10. It had better compression than before. It was running like shit and blowing a little black smoke while the other side was blowing the right amount of smoke. So I swapped the plug wires and the problem moved to the other cylinder GREAT! Well the side that dont run for shit and is blowing black smoke also just steady pours out fuel through the over flow on the carb for that side, same thing happens when I switch the plugs the problem reverses and that carb will do the same. Carbs are in sync and before the head gasket it would idle on its on just fine with the right amoint and color of smoke. So I go the the parts store and buy a new set of plugs, well that made it worse and now the left side just blows black smoke and the left side appears to be running right. The left side also makes a funny loud noise from the jug alomost like a little piston slap. I dunno. Before and after the plug change and after the head gasket change the bike wont idle unless its at half choke. Full and no choke it just dies right away no matter if I gas it or not. Im not a good trouble shooter but can perform any work that needs to be done, its just trying to figure the problem out so I can fix it. My last banshee NEVER had any problems and I rode the shit out it for 2 years. Im so stumped on this thing man! Im either gonna put a bullet in my head or many bullets in this f-in bike!
  11. FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I bought a piece of shit and got took ....guess you win some you loose some. Draggin this bisch to the shop on Friday. Fix one thing another breaks fix that then somehow carbs get all out of wack. Fuck it aint got the time or patience(SP) to being jacking with this thing. Thanks again everyone for the help but one problem solved creates another one to fix. I will be riding again. Damn it! This sucks!!!!!!!!!!! **END RANT**
  12. So I got it on just waiting for the gasket maker to seal and cure on the rear coolant feed to the head then gonna gasser up and check for leaks and make sure the TQ on the head bolts is still with in spec. I will let everyone know the status. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions!!
  13. I didnt mill it any cause I did many checks with a straight edge and feeler gauge and it was all good. I did find a gasket and it was the only one in the whole DFW area in stock. I TQ'ed the bolts it three steps 10, 15 then 20. After I did three checks to ensure all was TQ'ed correct. It was not leaking on the outside edges of the gasket it was on the inner edge closest to the domes and jug tops by the cylinder. He did install it properly. I think he over TQ'ed them thats why maybe it started leaking. I dunno. He installed it correct
  14. Ok, so I "tried" to buy a head gasket today and there is only 1 in the whole DFW area!! I wanted to buy 2 in case the head gasket is not the problem. Does anyone know where I could buy 1 in the DFW area, all the Yamaha shops said 7-10 days to order it! Gonna go home and put it on hope to God its the head gasket, I really dont want to have to do a complete tear down.
  15. Oh yeah I put a straight edge on the head and cylinders and they "appear" to be true, going to pick up some feeler gauges today when I get a gasket to ensure the proper clearance.
