i just got my first banshee (2000) and it wont kick start. If i pop start it if will run and run great and i can shut it down and it will then kick start. once it cools down it wont kick start again. it will start for a few seconds with starting fluid. could it be gummed up carbs. thwe guy said it did alot of sitting. igf anyone can help it be great

Sounds like a clogged pilot jet. Or the air screw settings are off. Turn the air screws all the way in and see if that helps any. If it does your pilots are clogged or too lean.

Tear the carbs apart, clean the hell out them. Everything, to make sure none of the gunk from sitting is stuck in the pilot, or anything else. Put them back on and see what happens. If it still wont start, turn the gas off, hold the throttle wide open and kick the shit out it. Let us know.

souns like to me your problem is not in the carbs...if once you pull start it, it runs fine until it cools down its compression. If your pilot is clogged it will run shitty no matter if it is cold or warm. Now if your compression is low it will suck starting when cold but fire right up when its warm, (due to the pistons growin once hot)...so check your compression and go from there. Another thing you can check is the air gap between your flywheel and your pickup coil. It should be...i think the book calls for .018 thousandths. For your application just stick a business card in there between your firing mark on the flywheel and the pickup coil and you will be good to go on that part. If it still acts up let us know, cleaning the carbs is not a bad idea but i don't think that is your problem.

Definitely could be that. My thinking was it takes less fuel to start a hot bike so a cloged pilot or lean pilot can give the same symptom. Id clean the carbs and check the compression and see what happens.

Boy youve got one for all occasions dont ya! Sweet line up of bikes. Im envious.

thanks for the compliment but the bikes aren't all mine. The purple one is my bros, the black one is my cousins and the blue one is mine. I just work on all them. I only have two the blue one you can see and a bone stock one but with t5's, its all black.

this is it with rockets but its my rider but normally with t5's

Here's one thing that happened to me a long time ago... Shee took a million frigging kicks to get started but would always restart real easy once warm... Also ran OK but seemed a bit under powered for some reason...

After almost giving up I took her down to a shop and the mechanic diagnosed it without even looking at her... Asked me if my carb slides were in the correct sides... hmmm... I said, I didn't know they had "sides"

He came out and pulled the tops off the carbs, swapped the slides, and started her on the first kick... shee ran like a raped ape after that

Man did I feel like a DOOF!

Do you know how to sync your carbs? If so look through the sync windows and hit the throttle slowly... watch for the ping marks in the windows. If you don't see the ping marks...DEEDEEDEE

today i was gonna get a compression test done but i went to load up and decided to kick it over first. 2nd kick and fired right up. i called the shop and they said my compression is most likely good. but now it wont kick again. any thoughts

check the gap between your pickup coil and flywheel...easy thing to eliminate and they will cause all kinds of headaces if loose.

i dont know where they are. plus today i sprayed a little starting fluid and choked it and it started 2 kick and stayed running i turn the choke off and rode a few laps around the house, shut it down and fired everytime after that first kick. so now im letting it cool down and try. plus low end kind off boggs down when i hammer it until im moving good

Did you double check your carb slides like I mentioned above? It's sounding more and more like what I had dealt with...
