I've always thought it was normal for my shee to leak fuel while im riding..its done it since I took it off the show room floor in 05..is this normal??

Sometimes it'll leak after i ride, i just tap on either carb and it stops..so i usually just turn the fuel off after every ride..

floats bad maybe? or need to be adjusted?

I've done all jetting etc myself after every mod...it runs perfect...it just leaks fuel all over the right side of the axle after every ride...i cant tell if its alot..im sure it isnt since i get a pretty good amount of ride time after each tank..mods are in my sig

TIA guys..

no this isnt normal. is it coming from the bowls/overflows or somewhere else? i notced when my pilots where WAY to big my carbs would leak when sitting ... but its normally a bad needle seat in the floats.

If its the overflow tubes dumping out, adjust the floats and see if that helps. If not, get a carb rebuild kit so you can change the seat in there. I have done several carbs and it works great with the kits.

its coming from the tubes connected to the bottom of the carbs going down.. not from the little upper hoses...

since fuel is covering my right rear portion of my axle and right side of my shock linkage..

so do i adjust the floats still? it shows in the clymers how to adjust them right?

or should i just get a rebuild kit and fix the float needles?

just seems odd, because its done it since it was new..

edit: btw: banshe-man, i have stock pilots..

you could take apart your carb and make sure that your float valve is good. You can check to see if there is a smooth ring around the pointed top where it would seat into the valve and seal off the gas flow. If it has a smoothed out ring and you can see a little ripple in the cone it is bad. Or maybe your float valve clip needs to be adjusted to make sure the floats push the valve up high enough to make a good seal. this should help if the gas is leaking out of the overflow....

Adjusting the floats will not fix this...guys.

If it is the hose on the very bottom of the carb(s) that is the drain. Remove your float bowls (do not mix them up, each goes to a specific carb) remove the phillips drain screw, completely clean it and the hole, and seat that screw.

That screw is designed to drain the float bowl, and right now it has dirt/crud in there somewhere preventing it from sealing properly.

The two hoses up on the carb, either side of the slide are the overflow tubes. If the float height was wrong or if the needle/seat were sticking or not sealing, it would leak fuel out these tubes, not the lower, single line on the bottom of the float bowl.

At least that's how I read their description of the problem....

i dont think its the drain plug because he said it did it from the get go. The needle seat being off is very common. check the drain and clean it but i dont think thats it.

edit: i just re read his last post and he said it is only the bottom hose and NOT the top ones so it could be that screw...

Am I reading that wrong??

I don't remember, but I don't think the stock carbs have hoses routed all the way to the back of the bike for overflow tubes, I think they just dump down on top of the cases...

But it's been a while since I've seen stock carbs AND the original tubes on there...

I do know for certain the drain hoses dump out behind the cases...which, seems to be the case here....

A picture could be worth 1,000 words...:)

hahaha...you guys crack me up..me and my stock carbs

damn, i was gonna take some pics last nite too..i should have!

But yeah, theres a total of four hoses coming out of the stockers, two small hoses dumping on to the crank case if they were to leak(which are not leaking), then theres the other two hoses coming out from either carb from the bottom of the carbs, those hoses route back down towards the swing arm...

I think dajogejr nailed it, ima do what he mentioned, taken them apart and cleaning and reseating that screw..

then go from there...

im going to snap some pics asap...for you guys to see what im talking about....

i really appreciate everyones help
