I have had a banshee since i bought it new in 01 but left it stock until just recently. Through making some minor mods i have found it to be very expensive. Then i look at the banshees for sale and wonder why i would even buy everything new when these guys say they have 5k in reciepts for just the mods and are asking 3k for the bike. So my question is, does everyone on this site really spend that much money on thier bikes or do they buy some used stuff or do they buy already upgraded bikes.

on a side note, is it ok to run 110 octance vp leaded fuel in a banshee? im just unsure about the leaded part

Yes to both above questions, and on the vp, you did not provide a compression number for your motor.

OK so buyin used is not unusual, would you suggest building new or can you buy a heavily modified banshee and be confident that it will run?

It just seems that with this much work done to all these quads that it would be risky. For the new stuff, where is the best place to shop from? Go for port work? suspension work? i am in phoenix az, so if any one knows a good place in the valley to get any of this done please let me know. I have been going to screwie lewies in north phoenix but it seems that whatever lewie tells me goes against everything that is said on this site so i need to know of some quality places.

and as for my bikes compression it is about 150 at home -around 2500ft and when i go to the dunes (glamis) around 165-170 im guessing

the motor is stock but has noss head with 20cc domes- so these numbers are straight from a chart

I have a 87 shee. its in the pic below. thats about 13 hundred later / tires / tranny / crank /banshee parts bike / bore piston rings / exc. it dont look that bad now i just like the cop car in the pic lol. it needed a lot to run but speaking for myself i`m spending a grand this week coming up and i want more. my winter project will consist of about 2G and i probably wont be happy. Shees my drug. if i purchased a running shee with mods i would find a way to spend $$$$ on her.

i bought my 03 used for 4000. up here in canada that is considered a good deal. it was a little rough, but not in bad shape really. it just had pipes and k&n filter. i dont like buying vehicles brand new because they depreciate so much right away.

You can buy a semi stock bike thats a few years old and put the rest of the money that you would have spent on a brand new one and put that money towards mods and have a bike thats 10 times nicer than a brand new stock one.

thats my advice, but once in awhile you get screwed buying used so its buyer beware

when it comes to engines and parts for motors (other than carbs intakes and exhaust), i only trust buying new and jeff from fast is a great guy to do business with. suspension and everything else, i would buy used.

Hey a fellow zonie. I only by whips from screwey or something I need quick.R ATV warehouse is very expensive. They wanted 110.00 for pods and Rocky Mountain was 69.00. For motor stuff call Jef at FAST.Rocky Mountain for oils and chemicals.Herrjugs for quick turn around and good quality port work. Or Fast if you can wait. Good Luck!

Hey thanks for the advice, i have seen a lot about herrjugs and checked out thier webpage kinda seems like a garage shop type deal. I like that they sound very personal i just want to know how good thier port work holds up to fast or trinity, what do you think?

I used to live in Glendale, AZ and was the service manager at Arizona Jet ski. Screwy Lewie is an A$$! Listen to us, not him.

We build and dump tons of cash in our bikes. When we are ready to add more to the fleet we look for those ones that have had cash dumped in them and buy them up for dirt cheap.

Do you want a mx, drag, or dune port work type of builder? Which one?

I want a dune port but i dont want it to be so peaky that its no fun to just cruise on a nice ride through the dunes, although i want some power if i wanna shoot the hill.

I wont trust buying a big bore/stroke bike unless I new the guy.I just dont trust it.I would tear it apart anyways to see whats really down there.

For builders I would choose in my order

1)Nate McCoy or McCoys Performance.

2)Kim at K&T racing

3)Jeff at F.A.S.T. Racing

4)Dan at A&S racing.

Nate Mccoy is building me a motor now.Awesome guy.Great customer service. Will help you with whatever you need.Help you tune your bike, take it apart whatever you need he will help you.I have never really talked to jeff or Dan so thats why their my 3 and 4.

Buying new is nice and its nice to build the bike to your exact specs because with a used worked banshee chances are you will want to make a bunch of changes anyway.

As far as the dune port just tell the builder of your choice exactly what you looking for and since your already running the VP110 may as well get smaller domes 18cc and advance your timing to at least +4 for more lowend. Make sure to get your crank welded though.

Well, then I would 100% call this guy (Dan). His stuff is wicked and he is good.

Is dan as busy as he used to be? I know for a while he was so swamped from people going to him on here, that he couldnt take any more orders, there was like a 6 month backorder. He stopped posting on here after he got into an argument with a couple asses that thought they knew their shit. He's a great guy and does awesome port work. Was gonna go with him, but got a good deal on a portjob from another familiar face that did great work as well.

I would never buy all new again. Even if its stuff you dont like and not your riding style, you can sell off the used parts for a good bit of money and buy the ones you need to build your application (thats if you're buying a whole bike)

As far as buying parts goes, it depends what it is. Stuff like, a coolhead, air filter, tires, I probably would only buy new. The coolhead can warp if its not installed and removed correctly, and tires are never as nice as when they are new. And then pipes, reedcages, carbs, and so forth I would buy used.

Its hard to say if he is back logged. Whenever I need something he just does it for me. So I dont know how long those 3 rz350 motors in his garage are going to have to wait. I dont think he is too far out though.
