I have an option to get Reed Spacers for just about nothing but will shee like it? i never had a set and i know nothing about them except they are not recommended to be used with pyramid reeds and thats why i can get them for about nothing. i would like to hear opinions from the experienced. will i benefit from this?

 

my shee has bills pipes,advanced timing 4 deg, v-force 3`s, 2 in 1 pwk 35mm carb, 60 over. K&N open air box. thats all the engine mods.

this is another one of those war topics... i have never seen that they do any thing to add power. they how ever do great to move your aftermarket carbs away from the clutch actuator. Snop claims he saw a .4 hp gain at max rpm or something like that. but he is the ONY person i have heard claim that he has actually put it on a dyno and had differance in numbers. everyone else just repeats what they have read.

I have dyno tests on this one. Having them will increase your midrange horsepower by .3hp! But, it will also rob about 1.2 hp from the peak rpm range. So, its probably not worth it to get them, they dont make a huge mid range difference on a small motor. They just rob from your max hp. I have a torque motor and I took mine off after the test.

Besides,

What does .3/.4 horsepower really mean if you are not doing some serious drag racing.

It may mean something if you are running a 5hp briggs and straton, but with 45-50 horsepower I

doubt most people could tell.

the longer the intake tract.... the lower in rpm the power falls. Same affect the length of your pipe has on a motor.

 

short pipe=high rpm power

long pipe=low rpm power

 

If your running a 2-1 pipe and carb then you might want to get some spacers to compliment the package.

 

I run spacers on my bike because I wanted the extra space behind the reeds for some air movement for my portjob. The extra 1/2" helps I think. This way the reeds don't smack the case @ full swing.

Not true, lost top end hp and torque with the spacers. The midrange gain was only .3hp. The top end loss was 1.2hp!

maybe you should do some config changes to maximize a change like that in the length of your intake. you might have had better luck. If your bike is piped for high rpm then spacers are a bad choice. If your the type of person that's looking for a "peak hp" then cool, but I'd take a 40hp bike over a 60hp bike anyday if the powerband was 5Krpm long. I had shearers for a while and the 1K rpm powerband was pretty laim for anything but a holeshot.

You know, until you could look at the run time, hp, and torque curves on a dyno sheet when that was tested, I wouldn't go praising the reed spacers.

reed spacers are worthless unless you have stock intakes and bigger carbs to clear the clutch arm...
