Scott...I'm not sure what dyno you saw that one, but there are PLENTY of people on here that will disagree with that.

It all depends on the setup and motor type/state of tune.

I know of two people that went from 4 to 11 or 12 and literally saw 4 or 5 MPH and an extra tenth or TWO by bumping the timing.

That's not dyno...that's real world....

I have no experience with it on the dirt. If that's the case, that's great. Was this on heavily modded bikes or what state of tune? I have no doubt tho, as my experience with comparing timing is on mild modded motors but even on them, there's a definite seat of the pants difference between 4 and 8 / 9 and it wouldn't be the first time something didn't pan out on the dyno that was very apparent on the dirt.

so i decided to do a carb swap before paying to get it dyno-tuned. I found a graydon manifold, airbox, and two uni filters on ebay and won the auction since im kind of on a budget, i figured one carb will be cheaper than two.

So now I need to get a carb and am wondering what size would go good with my setup. If the 2into1 guys could give me some advice I would appreciate it. Also I was wondering if I need a high flow fuel valve since one carb will be doing the job of two. thanks in advance

if you are looking for carbs, maybe look at some dirtbike stuff. most late 80's to mid 90's kx125s ran 35 pwks, although not air strikers, the 250's ran 36 or 38s, depending on year. i got 2 35pwks from 93 model kx125s for my banshee. paid like 5 bucks for one of them from ebay. i'm not one to ask for what size you need single wise, but if you are going to run 1 carb, i probably have something that would work for you if you can't find elsewhere. i really don't know what all i have, but do know i have every pwk model 33 to 39, all pj models 34-38, and a few pwm38's. have some mikuni stuff too, but not sure what all is there. if you wanted a twist throttle, have that and cable for all the keihin stuff. nothing i have would be an air striker model, though.

The air stryker has a power jet like a lectron.

If you ride trails and plan on ever doing port work then get a 35mm pwk. If not going to do future port work, do the 33mm pwk.

actually, the "air striker" is just an air foil in the carb inlet. some call them bat wings, it was there to help with air getting better directed to where it needed to be, also to smooth out the air coming in over the needle jet. supposed to give better transition in the lower to mid, or something like that. if you look at carb inlet {air box side} on bottom on each side of where your air screw hole is, you'll see a little wing. it didn't come out until around 1995 for the most part. only the 35, 36, and 38mm pwk models had air strikers, as well as the quad carb vents. they do make non air striker pwks with quad vents, but for oem only. if you bought aftermarket, like from cpw or sudco, only quad vent models will be air striker carbs. first mx bike with one was 95 kx250.

powerjet carbs have an extra jet on carb inlet side, they have a little fuel line that pulls fuel from bowl. originally used for sustained high rpm motors. all the keihin older bigger "PE" model rounslides had the provision for one, but never came stock.

only oem keihin powerjets were on mainly 250 japenese mx bikes, and were not mechanical, but solinoid operated. honda started it in 97 i think.

Yep...and I had 2 97 CR250s....they were good running motors. The first aluminum chassis sucked ass, but the motor was AWESOME....

Sorry...back on topic...:)

well i took it to the dyno yesterday. Mods are whatever is in my sig and +4 timing, graydon intake with 1 35mm pwk. ended up with 49.15 HP and 30 ft. lbs. torque. I took the bike in jetted at 200 main, 50 pilot, dek needle at middle clip, 2 turns out on air screw. He ended up

putting a 210 main and left the rest the same. It seems to me, it was snappier before with the stock carbs but I guess ill find out for sure

this weekend at the dunes. Im leaving here in a few hours. Ill post up when I get back

If the dyno did not have an engine break, theres no way to really fine tune the needle and the pilot jet. Thats gonna have to be done when you ride it in the sand under load. Only real thing the inertia drum dyno can help do is get the main jet and needle close. Also tell you hp, torque, run times, and changes that different timing and parts settings would make.

A friend of a friend did the port job. He actually did very good. my bike ran very good before I put the single carb on. the 50 hp

was with the single carb. It was way faster before. I think Ill buy another 35 pwk and run two.
