 We wanted to correct the breaking up at mid to full throttle, we lowered the needle clip one position to make it richer, took it for a ride and it seemed to help, also raised the idle. We then cleaned the k&n air filter, adjusted the two screws on top of the carberators to bring down the idle, took it for another ride, and now it is worse than what we started. main jet is 320, clip in 3rd position, fmf exaust mild port job, cool head. We need help, the engine sounds like it is reving fast and the bike can't ketch up, also some backfiring.

What screws exactly did you turn on the tops of the carbs and do you still have the TORS on there ?

we still have the tors, unplugged though, we were told to turn them large flat head screws on top of the carb, we turned them both about half a turn to lower the throttle. the bike ran fine before we started, except for breaking up on the top end.

Most likely you have your carbs out of sync now. I would recommend getting the TORS removal kit and putting actual idle adjustment screws on the carbs.

We are supposed to ride tomorrow, if we turn those screws back will that work for now? Also can we resync the carbs with those screws? also what are the air screws supposed to be set at for a modified motor, and how do i know if i am lean or rich?

New info, I just found out that he has been mixing yamalube 2s instead of 2r. I know 2s is for injected motors, is it possible that could be screwing up his banshee?

you sure this isnt an electrical problem? check the ground on your coil. where it bolts to the frame needs to be bare metal in order for it to function properly. just something to look at before you go doing any more jetting that you dont need to.

We checked the coil, all good, we drained the gas and filled up with new and now runs better, but still breaking up. put in new plugs, and plugs look ok, old ones looked a little burnt. any other ideas on why she would be breaking up? also she doesn't smoke much at all unless first started and idled for a while, one pipe smokes more than the other, but so does my brand new 06 banshee. Need help, going to race with some 450's tomorrow, and this banshee should take them, especialy if running right. thanks for any help I can get!!!

What size pilot are you running??? My '99 did the same thing and I installed a 27.5 pilot and that cured the problem. I'm running a 310 main and a 27.5 in my '99 and it's mostly stock motor wise

Not sure what size pilot, but the bike was running fine before i am assuming that is some kind of adjustment that we need to make.

I woulod take the carbs apart and clean the shit out of them just for shits and giggles...The smallest piece of dirt will cause a shit load of problems if it's in the right place

You should have raised the needles instead of lower. you leaned it out when you did that. plus I would also step up on the jet size. With only a few mods I was running 370's and it was ripping hard. I think your lack of smoke is lack of fuel. you probably have a lean pop at the top end. If that happens you could damage your engine quickly. Have you noticed it running hot?

We moved the clip down one notch which should raise the needle. It does run hot somtimes out in the sand with all of the spinning. I guess we can rais the needle some more and go to a bigger jet. is breaking up and some backfiring always a sign of running lean or could it be somthing else?
