I was recently riding my banshee and I stopped to take a beather, I noticed fluid pouring from behind my front sprocket! The seal was blown out and there was a mixture of anti freeze and transmission fluid pouring from it. I pushed it home and drained the transmisson and it's full of anti freeze.. Has anyone ever had this problem?

time to split the cases and replace all the seals. its actually coming from your water pump seal inside the clutch cover. how old is this motor? chances are if that seal is bad, others are just waiting to go bad on you. id say replace them all.

well my gess it there is a metal tube in the case where the clutch is....... the coolent flows in it........... its got an o-ring on it check it out see if its jacked up or missing the o-ring. thats what i think

youre kidding right?? please dont give information out unless you really know what youre talking about.

stopping the water leak is easy, you take the clutch cove off and replace the o-ring on the tube that is right there and remove the water pump to replace its seal. unfortunately, you are gonna have to split the cases to replace the countershaft seal.

The motor is a 99, the cases were spilt about a year ago because a couple shift forks in the transmisson needed replaced. I cracked the clutch side case at a PA state harescramble 2 months ago and bought new side case, new billet water pump propeller and all new gaskets as far as the sidecase goes. I am hoping it isnt anything that requires spilting the cases I dont have that much to spend at the time being but if it is I guess I'll park my baby and fix it over the winter.. I've herd mixed opinions on what it could be, many have said head gasket, some have said a cracked case or water jacket. The seals going bad sounds like a good thing for me to check.

I have the clutch sidecase off now and doesnt appear to be any cracks in the cases and the oring the kid just said seem's to be in good condintion. One thing I have noticed my coolent over flow bottle doesn't stay full.

the cases will need to be split because of that countershaft seal going bad. so basically every seal in the motor is gonna get raplaced. if the motor still runs right and doesn't smoke white (indicating water in the cylinders), then it is not a head gasket or cracked cylinder or anything like that. your just gonna need to psend the $80 on a seal kit and a gasket kit..

its NOT the head gasket. the crankcase and the transmission case are separate. the only way for water to get into your crankcase from the cylinders is for the head gasket to be leaking, and the right side crank seal to be leaking. the antifreeze would have to get down below the piston for this to happen. i dont see that happening, so i think you can rule out that. water jacket?? thats in the cylinder and would have nothing to do with this. so rule that out. have you checked the water pump seal where your impeller is? im betting thats where your problem is...

as for your overflow bottle.. take it off and throw it in the trash. its worthless. its definitely not gonna stay full if youre leaking coolant into the crankcase.

it's possible that that o-ring could be a source of coolant getting into your case but in this instance i think everyone is correct about the impeller shaft seal being the cause. as for the output shaft seal, if it were my bike i would buy a new seal and clean the crap out of the opening where the seal goes. grease the hell out of the seal and the opening and see if you can carefully work the seal back in. make sure you take the collar off the output shaft so your not fighting it and i think it's entirely possible if your realy carefull you can get it in without splitting the cases. the rib on the seal is rubber and it's on the wet side so it doesnt need any sealant so the most you'll be out even if it doesnt work is the cost of the seal but if your lucky enough to weasle it in and it doesnt leak when your done you saved yourself alot of time. if your confident that the rest of your seals are good (besides the impeller shaft seal) i'd give it a shot but thats just me...worst thing that cann happen is either the seal wont go in or it will but leaks so your back where you started having to split the cases...

also, if you end up splitting the cases i would take a second and check the rear crankcase vent and verify that it isnt plugged. i'm wondering how you built up enough pressure in your case to blow out the output shaft seal if the case vent was open...just another idea...

Yeah i had the same problem...i just replaced the water pump seal and bearing and the o-ring...my came out fine...just drained the trains a couple of time after running threw the gears a couple of times...thats my .02 cents  as for the output shaft seal cant help u there...do what others said and check the breathers to check that they are not plugged...usually thats where the fluid comes out of not the seal...to much pressure build up
