350BANSHEE350 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 well as some my know i did a plug chop rescently and well the one side had a nice 2 mm brown ring the other side had a 5-6mm grey ring and a black strip through it what does the grey and and black strip mean? Quote
letsgetthisdone Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 gray usually means metal. pull your head and see if the piston is still 100% intact... Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 METAL! it has freakin 25 hours on it and its an 07 and i am already having piston problems! Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 you joking right? ill need to buy a new gasket if i pull the head right? it runs excellent and it has overheated on me once but that was after the plug chop i did the plug chop about 18 hours in on the machine after it overheated though when i was flushing th rad i found lots of black flakes in the rad fluid do you think it may be my head gasket that blew? it dosnt drink any coolant and theres no extra smoke and the coolant dosnt smell like gas im really shocked that something has gone wrong already Quote
Dinner Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 How much did it overheat? Sometimes you can still use the head gasket after you take it off, as long as you havn't cooked it or anything. If you don't want to take off the head just yet, do a compression test..might tell you something. If you are still uneasy about it, then yes take the head off and check. Take pictures too. Quote
letsgetthisdone Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 you have some sort of a problem in the cylinder with the gray plug. you may have an air-leak some where. you should definetly be doin some inspection. especially since your plug isn't any shade of brown... and a head gasket is like $5-$10 Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 oops up top i ment to say i did it before the overheat and 18 hours on the quad that sucks cuz i just changed the coolant and i use engine ice so now i have to go and spend another 30 on engine ice where could i buy just the head gasget and have it here in cananda fast? when it overheated it the rad started to smoke it didnt have a problem running it was just smoking the grey part does have a hint of brown and theres also a black line across it also well thanks guys i was hoping to have a good vacation but if i cant get a gasget in 7 days then i wont be taking my shee for the 10 day holidy damnit Quote

csrmel Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 you can type a thousand words about it but we need PICTURES! and you can remove the gas tank and look down the plug holes if you dont want to remove the head. Quote

You obviously have a problem if the two plugs are drastically different, no matter what anyone else says. Your gonna be in for a big surprise when you have an evern more serious problem because the dealer is gonna want a ton of cash to fix the bike, or your going to be looking at doing a good amount of work, more so then pulling a head. My advice, post some pictures of the plug, we can tell you where to go from there, but I would think your looking at either a carb problem(one might be leaner then the other), or else you have an air leak somewhere. Either way I think your in for some work, which won't be all that hard for anyone with moderate mechanical experience. It will also save you a ton of cash, and time in the future if you do it right now. Quote

csrmel Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 if you have only had it for 25 hours, why not take it to the dealer? i think the banshee comes with 3-6 month warranty, they should fix it for free. if they wont, we will help you out but you have to listen to us. get pictures of the plugs, good pictures. and post them up. That's true, definately a warranty issue there. Also, what exactly have you done to the bike? I'm guessing it's not completely stock. Quote
