CenCalBanshee Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 ok im ridin and poof she over heated so i let it cool down and i look and in my overflow box in the back was empty then i look again and theres black chuncks in it to dark to be dirtso i look in my rad and there is a bit of coolant and black chunks im guessing it was my impeller? i rode it slow back to camp im guessing i should flush out my rad and hoses and what do i have to do to check my impeller and how hard to change it with a billet one? thanks alot guys if you pull the cover on the right side of the clutch cover you will see a access pannel to the water pump impeller. you can inspect it there. if its bad you need to pull the clutch cover entirely, if you are going to do that I would recomend installing a billet impeller Quote
Hilarious Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Black chunks in your radiator? Can you tell that they are plastic chunks? I dont know about everyone elses but, my stock impeller isnt black. Id drain all that crap out, fill it with water, start it and look in the radiator to see if the water is circulating. MIght wanna check your compression to see if you blew a head gasket too. Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 ok well it only has freakin 25 hours on it cuz its an 07 it runs great no extra smoke and no leaks around the head ill check my impeller tomorrow does that little coolant reserve allow coolant to be drawn into the rad also? i figured that it was only and overflow box not an extra intake for coolant if it dosnt withdraw coolant inot the rad then its a blown gasket thanks guys Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 ok here are some pics i got a sample and it is very thin and almost rubbery kinda weak and a bit of a shine to them i have no clue what this might be but there is quite a bit of it cant really see but far right corner there is a pool of it Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Are they plastic pieces did you look real close at them? I would go ahead and drain your fluid out real good, flush all the gunk out. Go ahead and get a 60 dollar billet impeller for insurance purposes so you won't have to worry about this again. I'm waiting on my billet impeller to come in as we speak to put it on this week. Just make sure you don't get any air pockets in your line when refilling your radiator back up with coolant. There are two bolts on the side of your jugs that your suppose to unscrew and when coolant starts to flow out the bolts tighten them so you get all the air out. It helps my buddy blew his up cause he didn't do that. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I just wrote on a the previous thread bout this. Think it's the coating on the copper head gasket. Remove the hose from the head where leads to top of radiator. Remove rad cap an run hose, don't forget to disconet line to overflow bottle. Should rinse it all out. Stock impeller is white plastic if I'm not mistaken! Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 so is it bad for the copper coating to come off should i get a new one? i think it might be from a hose that scretched from the heat and flaked a little because if you feel the inside of a hose its smooth and shiny bu ti dont know as much as some of you guys how hard is it to install a billet impeller? Quote
96_banshee_96 Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 If you believe that it is the impeller than just take a look nothing realy to it. I doubt it is the impeller though considering its a 07 I dont think it would take a shit on you this soon. I too think its the head gasket material coming off. let us know what you find out. Quote
BansheeKid15 Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I thought the stock impeller was green? at least mine was  That black material is most definitly the coating on the head gasket... when i was replacing mine after taking a peek at the top end, lots of that black stuff came off on the jug surface... and it was exactly as you described Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 well i am gong to check my impeller today but since its probably the head gasket is it bad oris that normal? to flush the bike im just going to run a hose threw the rad with the cylinder bolt off then put them in start it and do it again until clean well thanks for the help guys BTW if it was a copper material coming from the gasket wouldnt it be copper not black? 96_banshee_96 Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 My impeller was green. The gear that spun it was white  Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 its white but green due to the green crap you put in for coolent. Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted July 4, 2007 Author Report Posted July 4, 2007 well i drained it all out there was alot, my impeller was fine but im almost thinking that the chuncks were over spray that wore off from it getting hot because its thin and flaky like paint thanks guys Quote
