ninjamuder Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 hey guys, wonder if you could help me out a bit.......got my cylinders re-honed, and now i'm looking to do some light porting on my jugs.....these are totally stock, so they havent been molested by someone else.......basically, i am looking for some decent port timing #'s to compliment my other mods......shearer smallbore's, 28mm pwk's, r/s timing plate, std airbox w/o lid, 18cc domes in a cool head, 2 stage boyesen reeds in stock cages with reed limiters removed, 65.5mm wiseco's with hotrods std crank, 13/41 gearingw/ 20" rears i really dont want to raise the ex. port timing, at least no more than 1mm...although, i have considered widening it for more flow without making it too "peaky" for what i want, then, i had planned to do a typical "clean-up, and knife edge" of the intake runner, and the transfer port dividers.....possibly also matching the cases to the cylinders, as i havent yet re-assembled the bottom end i have done porting on several different 2-strokes over the years, mostly later model mx, and xc type set-ups for bikes, i just havent dealt w/ a shee till now.........i know it aint gonna run like a thumper on the bottom, but thats part of the addiction, right????? i just dont want this thing to be dead below 11k rpm like my banshee-sho pocketbike, but it max's out at almost 18k rpm!!!!!............also, i cant re-buld the big shee in 45 minutes like i can the little guy!! lolol i aint expecting the guys who do this for a living to spill all the family secerets, just looking for a little push in the right direction.....i aint draggin, or shreddin dunes, i just want a good running, fairly snappy off the bottom woods motor thanks for any help yall can throw me folks!!!!! joe Quote
BigRed350x Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 If you take your time and think about it and plan it out, you can do a decent cleanup with just a dremel and carbide bits. I raised the intake ports, cleaned up the casting flash, opened up the transfers and widened out the intakes on one of my first banshees and it had noticeable gains when I put a new top end in with some timing advance. I would ditch the shearers if you want a woods engine. If you are stock stroke / bore go with T5's, cleanup port, match your cases, advance your timing a little and spend some time tuning it and it will be a fun bike and still be reliable. If you have the tools to get down into your transfers and exhaust, you can play around with the angles on the transfers and the exhaust. I have a set of cylinders with a port job done that provides low and midrange power but LC performance has them right now doing an overbore for me. When I get them back if you still want some numbers I can map the ports and let you know what its got. But its set up for a 4mil, not a stock stroke. - Jared Quote
ninjamuder Posted June 20, 2007 Author Report Posted June 20, 2007 erm........ if im thinking right, since it is set up for a 4 mill......you would need to lower the port roof measurement 2mm from to top of the cyl deck for use w/a std crank, i think?????? .......sorry, gotta crash, since i hafta be at work in 5 hours, so i'm pretty much numb from the neck up!!lol man, if ya wouldnt mind mapping those, that would be awesome!!!! i wish i could afford to go w/the toomey's, but i gotta stick with what i got for now.....po-boy budget!!! as far as tooling, i have pretty much all the stuff i need for doing anything, including smothing the transfer wall's, i just dont wanna mess with the roof angles right now, this motor just isnt going to be exotic enough to really take advantage of it......maybe later on down the road tho..... RZBansheeMan Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 These probably wouldn't be too bad of a purchase if you are looking to do some moderate home porting. http://www.racelogic.com/whatissportport/  Quote
dajogejr Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Get different pipes, 100%. Shearer pipes are NOT woods pipes. FMF, Toomey, DMC, Trinity....ALL are better choices for pipes over Shearer pipes.... Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 if they are small bore in frames you will have no problem getting rid of them!! or you could see if anyone wants to trade you for some tommeys or some thing. Quote
ninjamuder Posted June 20, 2007 Author Report Posted June 20, 2007 i am almost 100% they are sb/inframe shearers, just dont have any solid proof!!! :: .......i have no identifying marks on the pipes whatsoever, but i have suspected that's what they were since i bought the bike....also, have compared to tons of pics on here, and also on a couple of site's that sell em anyone know how to tell for sure??????? plating on the l/h pipe is flaking off pretty bad, so i was just goint to scuff em and spray w/ some 2000 deg. vht paint Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 mine have shearer stamped in them, its right where the pipe mount bolts to the pipe! Do you happen to have any pics of them? Quote
dajogejr Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Yep...Shearers are distinctive looking, even his hand made cone pipes have their own character....let's see a picture or two!!! Quote
ninjamuder Posted June 20, 2007 Author Report Posted June 20, 2007 gotta split for work..............will try to post up some piccies this evening thanks guys!! btw, any thoughts on the adjustable lrd pipes??? Quote
dajogejr Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Never ran LRD...some people swear by 'em though... The thought of an adjustable pipe is pretty cool...I just don't know how well they seal. Again, never ran or seen 'em in person... Quote
