Droppedatbirth Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I cant get 2 of my tires to hold air, looks like its coming from the bead? its allways been the same 2 tires Quote
BansheeKid15 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 First off, if the bead is not sealing (and the rim is in good shape) you most likely have a bunch of dirt or sand preventing it to seal correctly. With the tire flat get a buddy and a longer 2X4 and have him stand on the 2X4 to compress the tire enough to get a air nossel in there and blow everything out. After you have done this to both sides. Fill up your compressor so you got lots of air pressure and fill the tire, it should set the bead because of how much air is going into the tire. Thats what we did to mine at pismo (dunes) and its held ever since. Quote

KaosBanshee44 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I'm having the same problem with my front tire, it keeps going flat on me but i'm about to do the same thing to fix it. Quote

Fill up your bath tub and give it a dunk. Thought mine was the bead but ended up being a slow leak from the valve stem core. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 if your leak is at the bead, do like bansheekid said and clean the rim and tire. then take a ratcheting tie strap and wrap it around the tire and crank down on it. when you air up the tire it will help the tire pressurize towards the rims and set the bead instead of letting it inflate upwards. racer Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Pull the valve stem when you seat the bead. Its taken me upwards of 60 psi to seat an ATV tire before, you don't want that kind of pressure in there for long. I dunno how much they will hold, but it says 40 max to seat one. Quote
hyperlite33 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 After cleaning the bead like was already said, I put a thin layer of "slime" on the sealing area of the rims. It seems to work great! Quote

racer Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 if you put a ratchet strap on the tire you shouldnt have to put a ton of air. I dont see that as making much of a difference. 1) The strap trick is to get the beads to meet with the rim, not actually seat them. 2) Its going to take the same pressure regardless. Its probably worth the ten bucks a shop would charge you to remove the tires. Then clean the beads really well with a wire wheel, and remount them. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 try it... it wont take the same amount of pressure to seat it... the tires will swell toward the rim more now becasue they cant go up Quote
Bansh-eman Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 when we raced it was constantly swapping tires and rims. we had a metal thing that covvered the whole tire instead of the stap and it hardly took any air to get them to seat with that thing... really see the differant when you put a smaller tire on a wider rim and you cant get the side walls to move very much.. strap it and they pop right on Quote

I see what youre saying, but will agree to disagree. Quote
