NoLimitzInc Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 So a buddy of mine gave me a billet side case. I was putting it on yesterday and noticed that there is no gasket on the outside edge of it like on the factory plastic peice. Should I take the one off the plastic peice and use it or does the billet makes its own seal? Here is the part that I am asking about? The small center cap has the tiny rubber seal in it though. J-Madd Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 It should have some type of o-ring or something, from what I remember on mine. Not necessarily a big rubber gasket like the stocker. Quote
kojack Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 if you could get your gasket to work great but that side of the engine isnt that big of a deal. YOur just keeping dirt out of the flywheel. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I would think you can seal it off using RTV Gasket Maker? Quote
theshee Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I know a fella that used some yamabond instead of a gasket and it worked really well. Didnt get any sand or moisture of any kind in there. Quote

My suggestion would be go to autozone or parts store and get some gasket material and make one. The cascade stator cover I have came with a thin, paper gasket. I would go that route and not use any rtv or silicone gasket in a tube crap. The stator needs to be sealed off from the outer elements. Quote

Please don't use Yamabond unless you never plan on taking it off again. 'bond is for cases....that's about it. Hi Temp RTV for just about everything else. If it has an oring, take it off, and put a small amount of high temp RTV on your fingers and go over the whole Oring, just a thin coat is all you need. That's exactly what I do for Orings in cool heads, etc. Quote

Shee-Male Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 whatever you use, you'll wanna keep it sealed up so no water or dirt gets in the flywheel & stator. Quote
