Hey Guys,

I've heard when you're riding dunes you're looking at rebuilding most of your bike every 3-4 rides...is this true? Maybe not the motor but all the suspension parts.

Thanks,

Matt

Wow! I'd say no way. The suspension doesn't see as much action on the dunes as it would in woods, trails, or MX, although you do have aproblem with the sand.

The motor still isn't gonna go in 4 rides unless your runnin' lean or hot. You would do the smae compression check though. I rode dunes a few years back with my Raptor out in Utah, and I think the machine took way more abuse on the MX track and woods.

no way that is completley false.. i would change my lower end about then but never rebuild... u definatly want to make sure u have filterskins and everything is all sealed up but thats about all

yea, they were saying the sand would just chew up your axle bearings, chain, and bushings...and if you weren't careful (like you said) you could kill the motor.

i ask because i'm looking at a job in boise and wanted to know what to expect in the dunes.

id say thats bullshit. sand is alot cleaner than dirt i only ride my banshees in sand and have never had a suspension problem ever. as far as the engine rebuild id say you should get atleast 3 or 4 years before you have to do a top end if you maintain it right and stay on top of your jetting. you need to clean your air filters and change your tranny oil but thats just normal.i also wash my shee after every time i ride it

sweet, that makes me feel better. thanks!

I've been ridin' sand for years and never had any problems that were because of the sand, but now human error was a different matter all together.............

Ya, sounds like your friends are a little on the paranoid side, they don't see little green guys with big purple or blue eyes chasing them on their rides do they................. :yelrotflmao:

My '02 has seen nothing but sand since day 1 and has had zero problems. I've cleaned the filter and changed the oil. That's it.

Whoever gave you that info is smoking crack.
