CadillacBanshee Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 I rebuilt my clutch mechanism finally and took the bike out for a few races and noticed that my bike spins the haulers way to easy. I was running up against yfz with holeshots on very very soft sand. The yfz would jump off the line before me. Is my swinger too long? My gearing is 13/41 and i weigh 220. Quote
bansheefreak Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 gear up try a 15 up front .. prolly help out alot.. but the 450 will always hook up off the line better.. but gearing up might helps with spinning so much and you gonna catch them real fast.. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 slow down the tire speed by gearing up, and stiffen up the rear shock. you want a stiff rear suspension so the weight transfers faster. also try sliding back on the seat a little bit. Quote
majicmike Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 what is your tire size? are they 20x?X? if they are 20 IMO 10 paddles dont work all that well on that small of tire. I would get 22x11x8 my self. your gearing is off IMO as well I would start with 14 front and then move up from there. Quote
odaen Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 7inch swinger for a 350 on pump gas doesn't seem like it would help matters with traction either. A 4 over would be plenty for your motor. But like others have said, scoot back on the seat some to put more weight over the tires, gear it up, and keep tweaking it. It will take some time to find what your optimal setup will be. Quote
dajogejr Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Play with air pressure too...go from 2.5 lbs in each all the way up to 5 or 6... 7 I think is way too much arm as well for that bike. With a 6 over on my 421 cub I ran 10 paddle haulers, I weigh 245 lbs, with Marvin Shaw shocks (very stiff drag shocks) at 14/41 gearing. Traction was not even a problem.. But...a YFZ probably will get a jump on you...they hook up very well...period. Quote

Animalman294 Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 That is overkill for your mods on the swinger. You also need to remember that as you move the rearend out the less traction you will have. Quote
Ducman Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 with that gearing try some 21x12x8 10 paddle extremes or 22x12x8 10 paddle haulers Quote
CadillacBanshee Posted February 27, 2007 Author Report Posted February 27, 2007 The tires are 22x12x8 10 paddle haulers. I tried dropping the pressure to 6psi but the top speed was missing. Im gonna try going a 14/41 next week and see what happens. What would the difference be with a 15/41, i might try that instead. Quote
bansheefreak Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 15/41 will give you more topend speed then a 14/41.. stock is 14/41 i would try the 15 first but might have a 14 handy.. motor might bog if too high geared... should pull a 15 if your starting in first gear.. maybe a 14 in second gear starts.. Quote
Ducman Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 I run my 21x12x8 extreme's at 3 to 3.5psi Also start in second gear if you have a small front sprocket like 13t or 14t. If you really want to hook up on a 7" swinger you may need to go with 12 paddles but they may want to straighten out your turns under power when you just want to play in the dunes. Quote
CadillacBanshee Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 OK, i tried the 15/41 and i was kickin ass. I was takin out those stoopid 700r's. Then i got into some really soft sand for drags and my bike kept boggin on take off. Trying a 15/42 next week. and then a 15/42, i'll let you guys know how it turns out. Quote
BigRed350x Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Good to hear you got some good results! I've got a +6 swinger and run 14x41 gearing with a 22" 9 paddle extreme and I spin the living shit out of it until 4th gear then it will hook up and go. I'm dropping my 4" swinger on the bike this weekend and ordered some 10 paddle extremes to try with the 6" swinger... we will see if I can't get some better traction off the line... Quote
