marty40 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Come on then. What age did you start building your own bikes. i.e. building your own engines and the rest of the bike. ive been at quads 11 years and im only 17. been helping my dad with them for ages. Now he lets me build them myself. built the shee engine a few times by myself now and pritty much do everything by myself and nothing has went wrong since ive built it...except for it overheating and ceasing. :: ps. not talking about porting, boring and stuff like that. Duner440 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 I've been riding since I was around 4 or 5. I tinkered with them all my life but as far as a complete rebuild, I was probably 25 before I tackled that. I had bought a 2000 400ex brand new and it was getting tired so I tore it down completely to the bare frame. I went through everything. Powdercoating, chroming, painting, 440 big bore, hot cam, exhaust, Fullbore plastic. It was a bad-ass bike for a 400. Thanks to Jeff at F.A.S.T. for everything on that bike. Then I bought my first Banshee when I was 28 and completely rebuilt that one twice. The picture that is in my avatar is that bike. Now I'm on my '97 Banshee and completely rebuilding that one to. Thanks to Jeff on all of them. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Wow, this is actually my first full build now, and I'm 26. Ive done dirtbike engines before, started about when I was 16 or so, I did a top-end on my RM125. Quote
fast500#12 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 i started at 14, rebuilding car engines, lawn mowers, dirt bikes. i didn't get my banshee until i was 24 i am 27 now. i do every thing but the boring and port work i leave that to passionre. thanks jim Quote

dajogejr Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Riding and working on them since 7, I'm 30. My family didn't have a lot of money growing up, but I always had a roof over my head and food (way too much food) on my plate, I'm thankful for all I've got...then and now. Didn't have money to hit the dealership anytime something went wrong...so, father and son working on stuff in the garage on the weekends. We always bought older, used bikes/quads too, so...maintenance and fixing them was always part of the game and it was understood. Quote
majicmike Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Never had much money growing up my parents did what they could much like Dave was saying. Ill skip the car stuff cuz thats where I got my start. But I never Rode a motorcycle or ATV until I was 21 and went to the yamaha dealer and said I want a fast ATV and feel in love with this blue bike that had "twice pipes" (Inside joke sorry) So I bought a brand new 99 banshee. I got used to the power and wanted more well just like my cars I did not need some one to tell me how to go fast so I started to tinker. Now I have 2 1/2 banshees a YFZ and a 660 Raptor. All of which do not run right now LOL Quote
bigboybanshee Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 I was 23, been riding for almost 4 years. My folks never let me get anything like this cause they were trying to "shield" me from getting hurt, so I had to get a quad on my own when I could afford it. My first quad was a beater, (and a banshee) didn't run but was a complete quad, and my friend and I tore it down and rebuilt it. I started on a banshee, went to a 4 stroke for a while and am back home on a pair of banshees. It's the only quad I really enjoy riding. Quote
marty40 Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 My first full build was around 11 months or so ago on the banshee you see im my sig. It used to be blue. Tore it down, rebuilt the pro-trax, rebuilt engine, powdercoated frame, hubs and bought new plastics, polished, painted etc etc.. Heres what it used to look like before the tear down Keep em comin by the way  Quote
trex banshee Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) i was 16, i had rode quads before then but never owned one myself, like bigboy my parents wouldn't buy me anything that could potentially kill me. So once i started driving and got a good enough job i got a loan and bought my banshee. Now that i think about it i got screwed big time on it. I paid $4200!! Oh well, then it blew up about two weeks after i got it and i had no clue what to do so I payed a guy almost $700 to rebuild it. That was the last time i payed anyone to do anything for me (other than porting and boring). The first time i tore it down by myself was in my room on a desk, i layed everything out in order and put it all back together and now i know it like the back of my hand and have been doing ever since on everyones bike around my area. I am 20 now and I love it. Edited February 22, 2007 by trex banshee Quote
enFORCER Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 I started riding dirtbikes in the mid 70's. I bought my first ATV or should I say ATC back in 1983. It was a Honda ATC200X. I had more fun on it than I can put into words. I bought my first Banshee back in 1995. I've been addicted ever sense. Quote
