Hi all, I did do a search but never found a topic related to this... :whistling:

On a Banshee that I hope to go pick up tomorrow the choke won't stay out / latched so you have to hold it while kicking (sorta awkward)..

Any ideas ? is this a easy fix or a complete carb overall ? :shoothead:

the 'Shee is modded up pretty good, i just don't know how worried I should be about this.. :banghead:

you should be able to unscrew the the choke and check inside... try cleaning out the housing...

they stock carbs or aftermarket?

Ok cool sounds like it may not be too major (maybe just cleaning)

I believe them to be just stock carbs... just has all the "normal" stuff reeds, spacers, TORS removes (caps), dual K&N's etc. etc. done to the induction system

If it's the stock carbs then the little detent thing on the the choke shaft might be worn out. The sure is to order a new choke assembly from Yamaha. I have had to do this on couple of Banshee's that I have owned.

Easy fix for this is to put a new o-ring (sometimes bigger one) in there. Once you take the choke assembly apart you'll know what I'm talkin about. I did this and it works great now.

I have the same issue. The choke assembly from Yamaha is like 50 bucks! You can find some used carbs for that price or just hold it for the 20-30 seconds that you need the choke for. I am going to try cutting into the little groove it has to make it deeper and see if it catches. Just been lazy about. I usaully just use the choke to fire it up and let it go.

I use a pair of $5 vice grips and lock them around not on the pull out shaft.

Humm, I guess that might get me through the first week, BUT I think I'll take a more functional approch at it

When you pull out the choke you will notice a little keeper clip that wraps around the shaft ,as the choke shaft slides the clip slips into the grooves and holds the shaft into position. It usually is that clip that wears out .I pulled the little keeper clip and made a new one out of the tip of a spring I had in a common spring kit from the hardware store.I just used some needle nose pliers to bend it into shape like the keeper clip.I did mine about a year ago and it has held up great.

Mine used to do the same on my old stock carbs(i have newer stock ones). I didn't even worry about it, i would hold it out while i kicked it a couple of times and it would start up fine. Most all stock carbs get like this after awhile

you guys think there would be any benefit to removing the choke assembly from a stock carb, cleaning it, then applying a bit of grease to it before reinstalling as a preventitive maintence way to prevent this from happening?

curious...
