Jhughes7 Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 I recently got an offer about picking up a +4 Chrome Swingarm for only $100. I dont drag as much as I just ride around the dunes so how much difference is +4 Gonna make to my turning ability? Quote

RIPPEN Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 its gonna make a pretty big difference...but if youre not riding in tight trails you shouldnt have much of a problem........gonna loose a lil bite too but if your extending the swinger thats the idea is to make the tires break loose a lil and not hook and pull the front tires off the ground Not sure if I agree 100%... The turning ability with a plus 4 is going to change a bit.. However with a little getting used to and the fact your riding dunes rather than REALLY TIGHT trails you will be fine. The plus 4 will help with dragging and provide a much better and more stable setup for climbing. Iam also not sure if I would describle the function of a extended swing arm by saying its to "make the tires break loose a lil and not hook and pull the front tires off the ground". The extension of the swing arm helps change the geometry of the bike shifting the weight more twards the front.. The side effects of this is loss of traction but depending on your tire you should probably be fine there as well. Also by the rider shifting their weight back on the seat will help with is.. I have a +6 on mine and really like it.. There are a few VERY TIGHT places where I have had to get off and throw down a little labor to get it turned but even with my 6 its rare. Another thing to keep in mind, is its going to handle jumps or woops differently.. I would guess that this is where you would see some serious drawbacks.. I know allot of guys that jump there extended bikes but it does become a bit trickier IMO. The woops also seem to be a bit trickier. I personaly don't like to jump much so these things don't bother me to bad. Hope this helps  RIPPEN Quote
Jhughes7 Posted November 24, 2006 Author Report Posted November 24, 2006 I am not big into jumping or anything, mostly, I do riding on the open dunes and doing Hole Shot hill cilmbs when I am not dragging. Just seemed like a +4 in perfect condition for only $100 was a great deal Quote
wesw Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 if you dont buy it, tell me who owes it, ill buy it. +4 make good dune setups and playing around. Quote
Bansh88 Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 Is this a stock carrier style? Roundhouse is MUCH better. For $100, I doubt the guy is including the carrier. +4 kicks ass! Especially in the dunes Quote
grounded Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 I just got back from the dunes with a new +2. It DID take a bit more effort to swing the ass end around. I got used to it pretty quickly , but was suprised when it did'nt want to slide as easy as the stock set up allowed. Quote
Animalman294 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Everything that Rippen said is correct. But for $100 bucks who cares get the thing and if you don't like it sell it and go back to what you had............. Quote
Geoff Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I have a +6 also and all I do is ride at the dunes. Open dune riding with some trails and primarily dragging and tree shots. I don't think it's as bad as most think.....You get used to it and you adjust. Sometimes I have to stop and move the back end when I'm in the trees and it's tight but more times than not I'm ok. +4 is what most would consider"perfect" for the dunes...the best of both worlds. You've got nothing to lose if you buy it.... like Animal said, if you don't like it switch bcak and sell the swinger. Your not going to lose money in the deal. Good luck Quote
ToomeySheeLE Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Who did you buy that swinger off of for 100$? LOL, I want to find one that cheap.. I see the Swingarm Shop has alot for sale and offer them powder coated for around 200$ but they dont answer emails.... : ( Quote
