Just wondering if you guys think it's worth breaking my cases apart to weld my crank, or should I check the tolerances and go from there? Need some opinions.. I will list my mods below..

21cc Domes (170 psi compression)

Stock Bore +.020

Eric Gorr Porting

FMF Fatties

V-Force 3 Reeds

+4 Timing

Lightened Flywheel

Dual 33 PWKs

Thanks in advance.

well if you want to be sure your motor dosent let loose then take the few hours to rip iit down and have it welded... id say its a clear answer unless your not worried about your crank separating..

I want to know how you got 170 psi out of 21cc domes.I am at sea level, dune ported with 21cc domes and my compression is 143 in one and 145 in the other cylinder. My compression was up over 150 before porting. My shit must be on the down slide

I am a RD/RZ 350 tunner, they were my bread and butter for years, we raced them motors in off road buggies, with motors doing 75 HP we have NEVER weld a crank, if the crank is rebuild more than 3-4 times then i will recommend you weld it. Like i said that is our experience on motors pushing NOT over than 75HP. I have NEVER had one crank come apart in my racing career. But like i said its just my opinoin AND EXPERIENCE.

Another opinion http://www.froggy.se/skalmanmc/rd350/index.htm they raced a RD350 with 90Hp on the crank, never welded. Its the same crank that your banshee run with. NB like i said if the crank is rebuild more than 3 times weld it. I have a crank running in a motor whichthe crank has been rebuild 4 times, (70HP motor) in a buggie, no problems at all. But one can only say if the crank will stay together if you rebuild it, depending of how hard it press together if you rebuild it.

ONLY MY Experience!!!!!!!

Once the crank is welded can you rebuild it or are you going to have to replace the whole deal? Can the spot welds be ground out and then refilled?

I waited until until I had my jugs dune ported, lighten flywheel & 36mm Keihin. Now it was time to weld the crank. I opted to have it rebuilt & trued.

I was wondering the same thing, but as it turns out my cylinders have been cut.. I measured it out today, and one side was cut by 20 thousandths, and the other side was cut by 30 :banghead: Guess you never know what your gonna get when you buy stuff used.. I'm just going to use another set, and while I'm at it I am going to get the crank welded... Just for the peace of mind.. I've had far too much trouble with this bike already and have got to do it right.. Thanks for all the advice. :thanks:
