IROOST1 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 If you just want an all around digital camera. A 2 or 3 megapixel will do just fine($100-200). The five megapixel will cost $400+ and i dont think you want that. I have a two megapixel and it works great for selling stuff on ebay and taking pics at the track. And they come out great when i email them for hard copies. Quote
dalegoldston Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Man I have a Sony cyber_shot 5 mpix. Its has been to Iraq 3 times and afghanistan 1 and the dunes several times good durable camera probably get one less than 2 bills now. But its just up to you and what you want to spend. Quote
STLBILL Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Well, I'm definately no role model for what you want, but: I shoot weddings, sports action, outdoors/wildlife and many other events. I may finally start a studio over the Winter. Maybe one of these years I'll take BigRed up on his offer to go out there and do some more practice. I use Canon EOS pro digitals for their wide selection of lenses. Occasionally I'll rent a Leica or Hassey for specialty stuff. For me a body (no lens or toys) starts at $4,000 and goes to $7,000. Lenses range from $1,200 for a 24-70 L telephoto, macro or a nifty tilt-shift to $7,000 for a 600mm L IS prime. You do get what you pay for, but it's impossible to afford if you don't work it. I use a $500 Canon S70 when I want to travel light. It is a pro camera in a point-and-shoot form factor. For example it does camera raws, has focus (not flash) bracketing, and accepts memory cards above 2 GB. I was surprised to find my 8 GB cards work in the little bugger! Wireless remote control and a waterproof housing are pretty cheap add-ons. If I can be of any more help let me know. -bill Quote
munkenaround Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Hit up best buy and buy a cheap olympus. for what you do I'd just get out cheap especially since the thing will be outdated in like 6 months. I made the mistake of buying a sony dsc717 just for the zeiss lens and it has been a good camera and all but I really envy the cheap bastard that you can just toss around and not give a shit about. dajogejr Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 The question is...do you want video or still pictures. For still pictures, you simply can not beat a Digital SLR...I love mine. However, no video.... For any kind of action shot....they can not be beat.... Quote
