pull the head off then the cylinders. take a look and see if you can see any broken shit. Base Gaskets correct? may have been smoke from the exhaust which is not sealed properly. Start there and report back some time.

Get rid of the ricky stator thats your problem. stock stators are the best stators hands down. Do a search on here.

S10RACER did you use a flex primer? I did on my tank plastics after sanding and what not. it held pretty good for a year and a half. some paint is chipping now. maybee I didnt use enough clear coat not sure. hope you have better luck

Prop up the rear end. Dry off everything good. have a friend sit on the quad and run it. pull the clutch shift gears and sit there until you see where its coming from. Like zilla said oil or coolant would help top narrow it down possibly
