fastcar01 Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Well I am thinking of having my Banhsee ported, agressive trail/dune. I am wondering how much better the motor would be also going to a long rod (using Blaster pistons)? Is it more horsepower or just more lower torque? Thanks Quote

It really makes a difference, even with stock jugs. Quote

switchblade Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 From my understanding You don't gain any power but you do gain reliablity. It lowers the rod anlge at the pistons which puts less stress on the motor. It will move the power around a little in the power band so it comes on a little early. For my money I would go with the 4mill wisecos buliding it uses the 115mm rods plus a little stroke. So you gain power from the added cc's and the reliablity from the longer rods. Just my two cents Quote
Polish Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I have the long rod with blaster pistons and a 4mm...........its not as nearly fast as some cubby guys.............but it flat out halls a$$ for me and the dunes..............my buddy has a Dean Sundahl Frame with only a longrod.......(I think it is a 373.......I could be wrong)...the bike is a pile of $H*T....but anyways...........It kicks A$$ though............either way its way better than stock! :thumb: Quote
Wallrat Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 As others have said just a longrod doesn't do shit for power. You need to increase the stroke if you're looking for more oomph. Quote
dajogejr Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 does the blaster pistons help that much? Nope...you can get Blaster pistons OR 795 series pistons. Back a while ago, you HAD to use blaster pistons because of the higher wrist pin height....until the 795 series came out... I have 68mm blaster pistons (big Bore) in my cub motor... Yeah, it's worth it....if you do it all at the same time and get it done right, Dale. Quote

RILS Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 (edited) The long rod will take a little stress off the piston skirt and produce a little broader powerband. The shortrod will rev a little harder and theoretically produce a little more hp because of crankcase volume at the expenese of piston wear.Oh yea i see you asked about blaster pistons unless you are going to resleeve your jugs which doesent make much sense unless they allready have a real high dollar port job the bigger bore wil make you about .5 to 1.5 more horse power at the higher risk of blowing orings and higher priced pistons.
