german hospitality Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Ok heres the scoop. i recently purchased a 97 banshee. im running procircuit pipes / silencers, k&n filter with outwears. The K&N is attached via pro flow plate. Im running 320 mains, 27.5 pilots, and i think the clip is in the stock location ( i havent touched it).I ride in northern michigan were i think the elevation is around 800ft. Heres the problem. At low to mid range the shee runs good. at wot it pops and spits. You can actually here it instead of the strong power band and the braaaaaaaap, its more like braaaa. It sounds like it needs to climb a few more rpms but it doesnt. And ive been jetting up and up since the last few weekends because everytime i look at the plugs there still lean at wot. I dont understand. Do I have a reed issue, or an air leak? But where. I need some help guys memorial weekend is only two weeks away and i need to get the shee fixed. Thanks. Quote
batoutofshell Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 same thing happens when I ride up near Branch (east of Ludington) the cold air at 45-50, I have to go up 2 mains to get it to stop spitting on WOT.Also lower my clip one to fatten up the mids. Quote
steveodo Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 shit thats funny mine runs like crap up there 2 . i had 330 mains 55 pilot could bearly keep it running. I think mine was dumping 2 much gas so i dropped 320 - 40 , the elevation is about 1100 at the bull gap hill climb according to the michigan topagraphical map . We took the a trail A an got away south an southeast towards southbranch, lower elevation it started running relly good but rich well thats my 2 sence Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 note to self, do not try and run the bull gap trails with extream hauler paddle tires and drag shocks, wake up the next morning felt like someone beat ya with a bat. jetting was doing some weird things up there. just do a plug chop when you are riding up there, may have to change jets. steveodo Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 hey badass it doesnt help we walked 5 miles Quote
banshdog Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Jetting sounds close, have you tested compression? Quote
german hospitality Posted May 16, 2006 Author Report Posted May 16, 2006 So is the spitting and sputtering the cause of a fuel starvation? I mean it seems like i just keep jetting and jettn and nothing changes. I did compression and with stock head its 105, with muilled head its around 130,135. And if i add oil it goes up. So I already know i need a new top end. But thats a diff story because it starts on first kick and runs pretty good at low to mid range. What do you all suggest for jets then. Im at 320's now. Quote
batoutofshell Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 try going up to 340 its cold up there still what 45-50 degrees Quote
steveodo Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 so since mine ran like crap i should go to 340 , mine felt like it was floding out an running rich ill take a pic of my mio plug Quote
steveodo Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 this is my mio plugs on 330 - 55 on a 60 degree day pulled soon as i got home, hope the pic is good Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 340s are richer, with plugs like that I would drop 2 jet sizes on the mains and see how it looks, no wonder you ran out of gas first, wastin all that fuel!!! Quote

Im at 320's now. 516678[/snapback] My bike did the same thing, ran great through mid range and into the power band but it would never rev all the way up. Thats when i checked my compression, found it was low, rebuilt and waa laa no more problems. If you are doing that much adjusting with no results and you know that your compression is low, i would recommend that you do the top end. doing the work yourself saves a bunch of money. plus i would say do it now so that you can break it in and ride hard this summer. otherwise you may completely blow it up dead in the middle of summer riding season.... just my .02, good luck Quote
