qdrcr44 Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 I just rebuilt my top end. Put it all together went to start it, and after about 15 min and a lot of starting fluid she ran. I let her run for about 10 min(this was 11 0'clock at night) then went to bed. I woke up the next morning tried again and nothing. I have 110+ compression, I have spark, I've cleaned the carbs several times. Besides a possible crankcase leak (which i doubt) what can it be? I do have new cdi box new stator new air filters new wireing harness, I do have spark. The fuel sounds like the prob, but why did it run one time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreceiated. Thank you all. Ride on! Quote
96bansheepilot Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 double check all the following....fuel flow to carbs...choke tube is on( the one between the carbs)......make sure your timing is correct(if you didn't mess w/ your flywheel then don't worry bout it).....use new plugs......make sssuuurrreee your pilot jets are nnnooottt clogged(take them out and run a piece of wire through them and blow them out w/ compressed air, this will make you pull your hair out if they are clogged).....good luck brother!!!!!!!! rsheppick Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 obviously since starting fluid resolves ur issue and once the motor runs up it sort of runs. take the tank off and put some fresh 91 octane and 24:1 oil for just 1 tank.... While ur at it take off the fuel valve and clean off the filters. That is what I would do in your situation. Quote
batoutofshell Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 make sure the carn bowls are not switched and the choke tube is in place. Check your PM's Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 are you at a high elevation? 110 psi is low for a fresh topend if your below 2000 ft. I'd agree to make sure the pilots are not clogged. and instead of starting fluid use your premix and a squirt bottle. if your pilots are clean and your air screw is set right you should start on the 2nd or 3rd kick cold. steveodo Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 ok try this one if your pilot jets are cloged or the wrong ones , you should be able to kick start it with the throttel wide open. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 110 psi sounds kinda low-specially for a new top end- Quote
Animalman294 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 (edited) I also think that 110 is low for a fresh rebuild, because stock is supposed to be 120 or there abouts. You may also check your gas tank itself, recently I couldn't get mine started and besides having 85 psi in each cylender. I decided to send my motor to Jeff for a 421 cub rebuild, but when I took the fuel tank off I forgot to turn the fuel off. Well come to find out the tank was completely plugged up because there was no fuel coming out at all, so check that also. Plus it may be partially plugged and the fuel may be trickling out. You may also check your reeds to make sure they are not cracked. Edited May 1, 2006 by Animalman294 Quote
