daryn c Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 (edited) my rear tire clipped a big piece of wood and it kinna tweaked my axle .. the skinny part by the right end ... its not a huge bend but its enough to shake you around at about 40 mph .. i have a 20ton press at my shop.. do u think i could find the right spot where the bend is and bend it back in place.. ifnot perfectly .. maybe bend most of the tweak out? .. or should i just get a replacement oen axle..? Blue Duece Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 if its a stock axle there cheap, or maybe its time for an upgrade, as far as bending it straight, if youve got the gear and the time, what can it hurt, maybe it will straighten out, probally never be dead straight but, but what the hell....good luck man Quote
DIRTMAN350 Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 definetly worth a shot. It all depends on how much cash you got laying around for a aftermarket axle. Do you have access to a lathe so you can rig it up and check the runout of the axle and maybe find your bend. Quote
batoutofshell Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 i just saw one end on e-bay for 30 bucks Quote
fastbanshee4u Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 my local yamaha shop in PA will straighten for like 30$ or 40$.Check around. Quote
minishee Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 i fixed one once well actually paid to have it done and within one ride it was back to being bent. after you bend it once and try to fix it you weaken it. chances are it will eventually bend again if you fix it. i was told it is becuase they are heat treated and they have to reheat it to bend them back. just my .02 and some personal experience. i wasted 40 bucks on it and still had to buy a new axle. mini Quote
daryn c Posted March 24, 2006 Author Report Posted March 24, 2006 cool , thanks for the reply's i have a small heating torch and stuff here at the shop .. i will deffinately buy a new axle when i get the cash , insurance just hit me hard Quote
400rednEX Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 you don't need to heat it to bend it back. my brother had one straightened at a machine shop, they had the proper tools to check runout, and they straightened it without heat, $8. we ran it on blocks after it was reinstalled and it was perfect.
