Cotton eyed Joe Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 F1 warm up 485004[/snapback] I think you can buy a frame for one of those engines. They're about 100 grand. Quote
Tim C Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 I saw a thing on TV a couple years ago and they said them F1 cars idle at about 7000 RPM and rev to about 18000 RPM. There wouldn't be much left to them engines when they blow - it would be like a bomb going off Quote
lastlegwarrior Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 (edited) sounds just like my civic ...well, minus the power , 18,000rpms , and six cylinders. Other than that they're pretty much identical. I warmed up a buddy's car like that one time and well, come to think of it that's the last time he let me warm up his car. locogato11283 Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 ive seen that before..are those the motors that dont even make enough torque to get themselves off the line?? Quote
broke Posted March 11, 2006 Author Report Posted March 11, 2006 You are right about that Loco. They have enough power to get themselves moving, the trouble is the gears they run don't let them accelerate for shit down low. It would be hard to get out of the pits if they couldn't get off the line at all. In the link it said something about a V-10 at 18,000 rpm. The new motors are v-8 that scream to 20,000. I've been to an F1 race at the Chicago land Speedway and have never heard anything quite like it. We were about 30 rows up and couldn't handle the noise with out ear plugs. Quote

My wife thinks I'm stupid, but I'd love to go to a 24 hours of LeMans and stay for the whole thing. I don't have time to keep track of stats n shit of race teams, but I love to watch it when I get the chance, and seeing it in real life is that much better. (Although I'm not going to the NHRA nationals in Vegas in the next month or so because of work My wife is going though. ) And a V8 turning 20,000 rpm is insane. Thats a reciprocating mass tackling turbine speeds. Quote
Mullet Man Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 theres a video on Ferraris website of Michael Schumachers car on a drag strip! does a 7-8sec 1/4mile @ like 180mph rpm's with those thngs is all about very short stroke, very large bore and an electronic infinitely adjustable valvetrain (on the newest motors anyway) theres also a good Honda video of an F1 motor on an engne dyno. shows it breathing in the atmosphere as it cycles thru the revs Quote
