bucketofsoupyum Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 (edited) How far should I gap the spark plugs on my Shee? I am running NGK BR8ES They seem to run pretty good right out of the box but if I can get a longer life out of them by gapping them correctly so be it. The other question I had is what kind of oil should I run in my crank case? I am mixing 32:1 with 93 octane and 2 stroke oil in my fuel mixture, but I am not sure what oil I should run in my crank. Any help would be apreaciated. (oh and I got my shee together now, she looks nice, prob gonna take some pics this weekend before I race.) EDIT: Oh yeah I got another question I forgot to ask earlier... I am going to take my air filter out and clean it tonight with soap and water. What should I spray on it when I am done cleaning. I dont really want to go buy the stuff I heard you can use like transmission fluid of something. but willthat be ok? Edited February 23, 2006 by bucketofsoupyum Quote

I run automatic trans fluid in my 87 and castrol syntec red line 10w-40 with lucas oil stabilizer and some other secret additives. - jared Quote
kb7kuh Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 (edited) I gap the plugs (BR8ES) at .20 and gap the stator pickup the same. I run Bel-Ray 80w-90w hypoid gear oil in the tranny, and AV gas with Maxima Castor 927 @ 40 to 1(16oz to 5 gals) Seems to work well Edited February 23, 2006 by kb7kuh Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Ya 18 to 20 seems to work well especially with high compression engines. The stator does not put out that much spark so the higher compression can blow the spark out. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 I wouldn't recommend running any oil in your crankcase. Now in your tranny, I personaly run Havoline 10-30 Full Synthetic. I've heard many say don't run Synthetic motor oils, they will affect the clutch life. But I've run it for some time now with no problems at all. On stock compression, I set my BR8ES's at .030 on the gap, factory recommendation is anywhere between .028-.032 I would probably just spring for a can of foam filter oil. Really you should upgrade the stock filter system if you haven't already. You can pick up a UNI "service kit", which includes foam filter cleaner and oil for like $12 at most motorcycle shops. Lasts many, many uses. Be careful with soap and water, as it could leave some residue. Dawn dish soap is good for breaking down oils, but make sure you rinse really, really well if you decide to go this route. Quote
MILO Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 plug - about .030" - usually cool out of the box tranny - i use bel-ray gear saver - 80wt filter - wash in water, dish soap if needed. i usually don't use filter oil Quote
ogre03 Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I could be all jacked up but I clean my uni filter in gas, it cleans the oil off real well, and evaporates off real quick . I use maxima foam filter oil on it. Quote
Wicked98Shee Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 i run my plugs @ .28 and have never had a plug foul. as far as filter cleaner and oil .. i use dawn diish soap and make sure it gets rinsed out very very good, i then spray it down with K@N in the aerosol can making sure to get the whole filter very good. and for gearcase oil i run Honda HP4 - 10w40. i tried the golden spectro 10w40 full synthetic and my cluth slipped like it was fried, changed to the HP4 and it grips like a MOFO!! ssanddemon Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Wow, a few are freaky suggestions! I would certainly use some real filter oil on the air filter, certainly not ATF or worse yet, totally dry. The crankcase doesn't much care what's in there as long as it's full or a little overfull and you change it often, though most guys don't run synthetic due to clutch slip. Plugs are good at .020 to .030, the smaller gap for high compression motors. 30:1 is rich on mix unless you are running crap oil. I run 60:1 with Klotz Benol. Quote
