fresh top end dont want to blow it again.....

i have a ping noise comming from the cylinder area clymers says it could be too low octane in the gas but i dont think thats it because it was runnin good awhile ago so im gonna check the air screw.... is that the only thing that adjusts the air? or is there different things to adjust for different speeds like the gas....anything else it could be? thanks for the help also the plugs look fine a little dark but no signs of running lean

I toasted a set of pistons with 21cc dones by just using pump gas.. if you are hearing pinging then i'd go 50/50 with pump and race gas.. better to be safe than sorry. Detonation will get you pretty quick.

think i can get away with octane booster for now, i think im gonna go up a size in the domes because i dont want to run race fuel

Octane booster will not give you the same results as running race gas. I'd really recommend running a 50/50 mix like suggested above to be safe, or back off of your timing a little to compensate  Or I guess you could go up to 22's for domes like you mentioned :shrugani:

Race gas isnt all that expensive especially if you are running 50/50. Going to 22cc domes is an option but you will loose the low end you gained by bumping the compression.

if i adjust the timing i wont have to change anytiing else? what should i adjust it to? thanks for the help and also what exactly causes the engine ping im hearing?

Well, you could try it but don't know if it will surely fix the problem...your signature says you're at +4, try going to +2 and see if it still pings. Usually pinging is a sign of either not enough octane or premature ignition; if my memory serves me correctly...someone correct me if I'm wrong

Above all, I really think you should just run race fuel. I was able to run +4 timing and 21cc domes on my banshee with 93 octane pump gas for the longest time...

What is your compression? Are you sure those are 21cc domes? If you're running anything smaller than 21cc domes you can hang it up on running pump gas :shrugani:

when do you here the pinging most, and what does it sound like?

its like a knocking ping sound comming from the bottom of the cylinders its just as loud on both sides when i rev the engine it fades out and i cant hear it but cold or warm it does it

PING is an acronym for Pre-Ignition. It's caused by some condition in the cylinder causing the air/fuel mix to ignite before the plug fires. You correct this pre-ignition problem by running higher octane fuel, as octane is essentially a measure of a fuels resistance to ignition. The unstable charge can be caused by higher cylinder temperatures as a result of increased compression, advanced timing etc. You may be able to get away with running an octane boost, but not the cheap-o Wal-Mart 97 cent stuff, and a good octane boost (although none of them are what they used to be) will probably be more expensive than cutting some race fuel into the mix.

Thanks for elaborating on that for me

I think mine has always been a little ping'y. I thougt it was a banshee thing.

quik hint. get a set of doctor's ears. I dont know what they call them, but those things they listen to your chest with. Anyway, if you had a set of those, you can place them on your engine, and pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
