1996yfs200 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 i was just wondering if there is anything your supposed to like un-do before trying to take that huge nut off of the front sprocket. ive got the little thing unbent from around the bolt, but dont have any wheels on the quad. i put it in gear and held the flywheel, but she wouldnt loosen. i dont wana f-up my first gear either. i was thinking put the chain and rear sprocket back on, along with wheels and lower down off the jack, stick it in neutral and doing it, but would really rather not if i didnt have to. thanks Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 If you've already bent the tab back on the lock washer you should be good to go. I've always used an impact wrench, nut comes off with the quickness Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 The easiest way to loosen it is on the ground with everything on it and have someone hold the brake. I just took mine off the other day without wheels and with the chain master link out. What i did was I wrapped the chain around the front sprocket and then also around the rear sproket and put a punch (any rod will work) through one of the holes on the sprocket through to the brake. The punch will lock the sprocket and brake against the swinger and the chain will hold the sprockets from turning and with some force or an impact you should be able to loosen the nut. Quote

ghostryder420 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 yo i was just about to start a new thread but i guess ill just add to this one... can somebody tell me exactly what happens when you change the front sprocket and how it affects the performance? im planning on intalling a 13 tooth front sprocket and i just wanna know more about how it works. thanks yo Quote
njbanshee Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Less teeth more bottom end. more teeth more top end. a 13 tooth will pull wheellies all day and a 15 tooth will have nice top end speed. Quote
