primernova Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 im only working with about a 1000. ive found the t5s for 500. gotta have new rear tires.holeshot xcr's 220 and i found the reeds for 90 that leaves a little room if i need more to install. i have never dug that far into the banshee so what's involved in the install. thanks for the help Quote
dajogejr Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 You talking about just the reeds, or cages too? Boyseen make a fine aftermarket reed. Since you are on a budget (aren't we all... ) those will be just fine for now. When you have the money to spend, I don't think anyone will argue VForce Reed cages and reeds are a nice improvement and a solid investment. Sure...you can get your stock reed cages ported, etc. But...with the V Force you just slap 'em in, and the reeds will last a bit longer.. T5s are a fine choice, by the way. Look in the for sale section here, also on Ebay...you might be able to save a few bucks.... I got mine a little cheaper from a member here. A little rusty...but, saved a lot over retail! Quote
primernova Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 would i be able to modify the stock cages. or do i need to take it to a shop Quote
dajogejr Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 If you have to ask, you need to take it to a shop. They'll remove metal and shape the stock cages. However, since you asked...I'm sure you don't have the tools to do so. I think stock reed cage porting runs 30 to 50 a pop, but...I'm not sure. Someone will chime in here shortly with some people that can do it, and probably a price, too... Quote
locogato11283 Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 i wouldnt bother messin with the stock reed cages. i would go ahead and make in investment in V force now. in the long run as you start building up your motor you will always have the best reeds. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Yeah, if he's got 1000, minus 500 for pipes, minus 220 for shoes, leaves about 280 by my calculator. Can probably get the VForce, head milled, lightened flywheel and adjustable timing plate for that...give or take. You'll be happy then!! Quote
Banchetta Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 I would save your money on reeds for now and get a cool head and timing key....that'll give you a lot more acceleration. Reeds won't do shit unless your ported...if they do, then your jetting was off. Quote

I have heard very mixed reviews about the timing keys, but advancing your timing is a good way to pick up a few all around. Usually I agree with Banchetta, however, I would say that a set of VForce's would probably make a difference in your throttle response, but may not see it on the dyno until after you have ported it. I believe that what Banchetta may have been referencing is that the stock porting is so restrictive, that the increased flow possible (thus more power) by the VForce's may not be attainable until you have the bike ported. Most people will leave the needles in the stock position when adding pipes, so when they add the v-force, they gain some....In actuality, they could have saved 200 bucks and just moved the needles up.....the v-forces do however make nice gains w/ a ported shee though w/ the increase in air flow...especially on the strokers!! banshee tuner Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 V force is not worth it unless you are ported, port your own cages with tdr reeds=40 bucks, get the head milled=50 bucks, get adjustable timing plate=35. That still leaves some money to play with and I would put that into air filter setup and ditch stock airbox. Porting the reed cages is easy, if you were local I would do them for you. Quote

I have built some fast banshees for guys who have done fine at the drags with out v-forces.Not to say there bad and I had them, but there over priced, like every thing else in the quad world. Quote
primernova Posted January 21, 2006 Author Report Posted January 21, 2006 AGAIN THANKS FOR THE HELP.. ADJUSTABLE TIMING PLATE... MILLED HEAD... DOES ANYONE HAVE BRAND NAMES TO LOOK FOR OR A GOOD WEB SITE. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Yep... www.rickystator.com for the adjustable timing plate. 35 bucks plus shipping last I checked. PM Boonman on these forums for your milled head, and...ask him about shaving your flywheel. You can have all 3 of these mods done for less than 150 or so, and well...well worth every penny. Quote
