Here's what I know (think I know)... The motor will only rev as high as the pipe will let it. Differant pipes are tuned for differant rpms. Once the power "falls off the top end" of the pipe the motor will not have enough power to rev itself any higher. So depending on which pipe you run will determine just how high it will rev.

No?

When I ran my Tiny Tach it had a lead that I wrapped around one of the spark plug wires and that's all I needed.  Stock pipes I couldn't pull much over 9500 RPM.

My bud with the kart's tach wires up the same way. But the instructions for this one say to join the green wire onto the negative coil terminal or onto the ignitions tach terminal. I don't think the banshee has the second option. So I trued connecting it to the negative coil terminal (which is just behind the belly of the pipes on the kickstart side). Am I connecting on the right spot?

My Banshee pulls 9857rpm with Paul Turner mid pipes and FB's. The pipes, and I know some will not agree, is you rev limiter. It controls soundwaves coming out of

your motor. This is done with the rate of expansion, the belly, the rate of deexpansion and the overall length, of the explansion chamber as well the silencers.

If you know your gearing, tire size and your top speed I can tell your exact rpm's.

If I was trying to find out when to set my shift point I would have it dyno and set it at the point my hp starts to drop. My guess would be 8500 to 9000 rpm, but this is just a guess.

Hope this helps.

I'm probably wrong but don't you want to connect it to the brown wire coming off the coil? Isn't the the negative terminal of the coil? I'm not sure how a tach would work on a banshee ingition though. because it fires twice per stroke, once on compression and once on decompression per cylinder, so I would think your rpm's would be twice as high as the true rpm's. If all else fails bring it to a shop and have them do it. It be ashame to have something that you couldn't use.

Good luck, keep us posted. I may want a tach too someday.

Thanks cutiegirlracing! I just spoke to a guy that is apparently an electronics whiz or something. He says it wont work because the banshee does not fire negative! But why is there two wires going into the coil then? I tried connecting to both and got zip, except the one did shock me a bit! :o:P

does anyone else find it wierd that cutirgirlracing knows all this about 2 stroke pipes but doesnt know if a stock predator will beat a piped kfx400???

I've learn alot from my dad. What can I say he wanted a boy  . I've never rode a KDF 400 so I know very little about them  . I started riding on 4 stroke Hondas and know some about them, but I know mostly about 2 strokes and mostly Banshee's at that. I know alot tech wise from my dad, but still have alot I want to learn when it comes to real world and real life ideas about atv's. I can build an a screamer on paper, but it might be a real turd in life. <_< So I'm still learning, I just know enough to be dangerous right now. ;)

im glad im not the only one who thinks she seems kind of fishy...

Did you try connecting it to just the brown wire by itself? That is the ground. Don't try them together. I hope you didn't get shocked to bad.

It wasn't that bad. The bad part was that there was no one there to kiss it better!:rotflmao::jesterlaugh::rotflmao:

Just say screw that complicated tach and get yourself a Tiny Tach, mine was only $50.

Yeah! I reckon I'm going to sell the thing and get a gps instead.

GPS would be much more useful.  Good Idea.

It wont give me revs but on the other hand I get a lot of other useful functions. I can get one with mounting hardware for R1200.00 (+/-USD191). How does the price sound? It's about the best I can get here and its water proof as a plus.
