rebelbanshee2 Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Im hoping to get some winter riding in this year, I got an old set of razors and a set of nasty mud sharks im going to stud up. Im going to use sheetmetal screws. Should I put tubes in my tires? Ive read that if you put a ton of presure in the tire before you stud them and put them back to normal it holds the studs real well. I dont want to lose studs and go flat. Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I'd like to know the answers to his questions also. Quote
Banshee17Racing Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I haven't put tubes in the tires I've studded. Just make sure the sheet metal screws are just short of going all the way through the tire. I've also heard of people studding the tires, then using slime to seal up any leaks, I've never really tried messing with the air pressure while studding them, so I don't know if that has any effect. But like I said, I studded them with 4-5 psi in them and I still haven't had a problem for one year now. How many are you putting in? Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 make sure to get the sheet metal screws without the self taping tips, these will rip out real easy. I have a set of tires studded up no tubes did not hook hard enough for me so I got some snowmobile studs and put a bunch of them in there. it hooks like on ashfault now!! Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I was going to get some studs from Dennis Kirk, it's about $60 for 1000 of them various sizes are available. But we don't have enough ice to justify it, it's been too dry and all my good spots are dried up. Quote
locogato11283 Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 i use sheet metal screws in mine. so does my dad and brother. they have all been thru 3 winters with the same studs. i use a 3/4" sheet metal screw with a 5/16" hex head on them. they work awesome. u can get them in boxes of 100 for about 4 bucks. i use about 200 per rear tire. and a box for the fronts. i have a complete set i throw on in the winter and they work great. if u have not so great tread use 1/2" long and theyll work also.. JARE77 Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I used sheet metal screws one year and thought they were great until I bought some real studs! I can tell you that the difference is well worth the couple of extra dollars.I guarantee you wont be dissapointed. I always use SLIME in my studded tires it works well, just sucks changing tires that are filled with that shit. Quote
