DemonShee Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Just wondering when you see ported, and then you see ported and polished. What is the difference? I mean duh i know what polishing is but is it like polished to a mirror smooth finish? Or is it just a nice smooth finish? How much gain is there between the two options and what is polished if you have the polish done? Just curious as I have my new ported cylinders sitting here and all winter to polish em up if it is worth it. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 yuo want to keep a rough surface on the intake ports to keep the fuel atomized in the port, when you polish all you do is the exhaust port, you don't have to spend days on it just smooth it out so carbon has a hard time sticking to it. hope this helps Quote

And yes, it is worth spending a few hours of grinding and smoothing to get a few extra ponies.IMO though it wont be a huge differance, any is better tnan none Quote
RNBRAD Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Actually polishing the exhaust is more to keep from transfering as much heat to the juggs. I can't see it increasing power any, other than power related to better cooling. Quote
NEVER SATISFIED Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 i concuuuuuur with rnbrad!!! cooler shee means alll day WFO!!! no loss of power.. helps keep the flow of heat to the ex... brap brap!!! Quote
DemonShee Posted November 8, 2005 Author Report Posted November 8, 2005 Thanks for the reply's guy's. I wondered about polishing the intake as I did experiments with my DS on polishing the intake side of things. It seamed to increase the top end some but the bottom end torque went to crap. I seen a show once on how sharks swim so fast. They have a surface on their skin simular to that of an orange peel. This caused actually less contact with the water as they would swim at high speeds. I know some Nascar teams have played with and do use a orange peel finish on thier cars for less drag. This increased thier speed and fuel economy. I think the same would apply to motors as were my results. I will have to grab the cyl's off the shelf and take a closer look at the exaust side and if they were not already done, they will be! Any suggestions on a procedure to polish em up? I dont have access to the tools I had when I did my DS. Quote

You want a rough texture for better fuel/air atomization. Quote
broke Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 When I see port and polish I really just put the person that said in the class of the ones that don't know what they actually have. They just know what somebody else told them they have. Quote
