BakoBanshee Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I plan on having a single 3" cat-back mandrel bent exhaust put on my truck. I know the old-school 40-series Flowmaster sounds sick on the 5.3 V8. Do you guys have any other recommendations that sound as sick or even better than the Flo? I want my truck to sound like it has a "big set" , like it's owner! Quote
RNBRAD Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I like the corsa and borla systems, though they may not be loud enough for you. Quality is second to none. Quote
ZillaRider02 Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I've got a 40 series Flowmaster on my '00 Extended Cab Silverado with the 5.3. It's dumped right in front of the rear axle. Sounds mean enough! Quote
eehsnab2 Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I'm running about the same but I am also I'm running Gibson headers to a single muffler and then two from there to each side and a high flo cat... sounds really good... Quote
2strokesmoke Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 i have a 99 yukon with vortex 5.7 with jba headers and no mufflers now that sounds mean but i dont think you could get away with that in cali 40s sound good Quote
jeepman380 Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Depends on how loud you want it. I would go with a American Thunder series setup. It has all the tubing with 50 series delta mufflers if you want it loud. If you want a mellow tone get either the Force II system or just some 70 series mufflers. Quote
iceman Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 ive got a corsa on my 4.8l and its loud. you can listen to the 5.3l on their website. Quote
04ShEeLE Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 I don't know where you're from but out here in cali we say a Flowmaster one chamber, two chamber, or three chamber. I would imagine that the 40 series is a two chamber, in which case I will say go for it. I had one on my 97 5.7 liter chevy truck, but recently changed to a magnaflow. I really like the sound out of both of them. The magnaflow is more mellow and "refined" something you would find on somebody older's car. The flowmaster is very "raspy" but drones on the freeway at like 2800 rpms. You should definetely look into headers for the vehicle, I have a set of Doug Thorleys and it made quite a noticable diference in power. Enjoy, and keep us updated with what you choose and your thoughts, I'm curious. Quote

I coiuldnt count how many setups ive seen on just about every truck, but IMO the H pipe systems, the dual pipes with a middle pipe that connect the two just after the mufflers sound the deepest, lowest, rumble, and clean sounding. I dunno, loud isnt always the best to my ears, but the setups im talking about make my ears drool also the mandrel bends are deff a good idea, the fit and quality look very good Edited October 27, 2005 by bobbybonilla Quote
BansheeJen Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Maybe I'm getting to old or something. But I had a 40 series 2 chamber on my 5.7 with some other exhaust mods. Sounded good till the gears went in the rear end. At that point I couldnt even turn the stereo up loud enough to drown out the exhaust. The interior resonance was so bad I was ready to stick myself in the ear with a screwdriver. Maybe on the 5.3 it has a different effect. I ended up with headers with a 3" collector, 3" straight pipe, connecting to a 3" in and 2-2.5" outlets on a Delta flow 50 series. I can actually talk to the person sitting in the cab with me now. Has nice rumble and intimidating lope to it now. If you like loud quality check into Bassani too. Magnaflow would be my next choice after Flowmaster though for a V8. Quote
red ore Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 the cat has enough noise cancelling by itself. Run pipe, forget the mufflers. Oh yeah! JMHO Quote
