batoutofshell Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 I am going to resleeve back to stock bore this winter,Clymers doesn't show it. Does anyone have instructions or tell me how to do it?Tried to do a search but came up empty. possibly a website with pics and instructions? Thanks Quote
BigRed350x Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Not really something you can do yourself unless you have a hydraulic press. You will either need to press the old sleeve out or bore it out, then clean everything up and press in the new one, then go through and match all your ports & stuff. Probably something you should send out to have done. LA Sleeve does this sorta thing. Quote
suzuki0702 Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 ive seen guys on here ask about that few times..you will have better luck finding a used set of cylinders. the amount of money u will spend on resleeving your two cylinders will easly exceed 650.. Quote
batoutofshell Posted October 10, 2005 Author Report Posted October 10, 2005 I already bought the La sleeves new on fleabay 75.00 shipped figured I could find someone with a press and get them to do it cheaply. didn't think about the ports and all that. Its an 87,I just want it back to stock so it would last me awhile longer.Anyone got any ideas besides cylinders, I don't trust to get it apart and getting bad cylinders and be f---ked.Hell I am single Dad with 2 kids I have been making it by selling and buying Parts for mine and my kids bikes trying to make them look cool and perform better. fastbanshee4u Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 You have to machine out the old ones and have a machinist install the new ones. $100- 150 per side. Shop around, and look in the back of magazines. You are better off to have someone who does this everyday, they can screw up your sleeves. You will need your new pistons, so they can do the final bore and hone also.make sure the ports are chamfered when done to.The proper way for this to be done,is heat the jug and cool the sleeve, and slide in place. Now it fights tight. Shee-Male Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 the old sleeves have to be bored out, the new sleeves are acctually larger O.D. then the stockers, only after machining can the new sleeves be installed. Quote
IRONDOG Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 I can do this for you- I do most of the sleeve jobs for the shops in my area (Flint, Michigan). I machine for the proper interference fit and match all the ports perfectly. Guaranteed to look and perform like new, or better if you want it. No issues, just good work. Call me at 810-687-2184 until midnight. Jerry Quote
