bigboybanshee Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Just curious if anyone has tried running paddles on dirt for dragging? If so, how did they do? Got a possible race this weekend at a 300' dirt drag strip and I have a choice (right now) between I-razors and paddles. Haven't had a chance to get some good tires to drag with and was seeing which of the two options would be better for the time being... Thanks! Quote
alcoholbanshee Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 If they disk the track down at least a couple inches paddles will be fine. I have used paddles at several tracks down south(Rolling Thunder, Little Sandy, etc.) with good success. But I have also been to tracks in the south where the dirt is packed so hard paddles or pro-wedges will never work. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 Hey, thanks for the reply! I'm new to the drag scene and am trying to learn as much as I can before I go out to the strip. I know the track is a dirt/clay mix, that means it'll be pretty hard, right? Quote
puddle jumper Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 the track i race at is mostly hard pack,so i run the dirt tires, but when they disc it you definately want 4-snos or paddles Quote
bigboybanshee Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 Thanks! One more dumb question....when they say it's a cut track, is that the same as being disked? LOL, remember I said I'm new to all this and am not familiar with the terminology... Thanks for the help! Quote
locogato11283 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 if its pretty hard packed try out some kenda knarlys with every other row cut out..them bitches hook hard even in hard packed shit.. Quote
race-a-holic Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 The tires play a HUGE part in running good times.Different tracks do require different tires. The same track can also change in how it hooks up from week to week. Some trial and error will be involved.Wish it was easier.Don't forget gearing. This is one of those questions if it was asked a 100 times, you'd get a 100 different answers.Ask for answers and see what works best for you and your quad. The track I'm going to gives us two hours time to test and tune before the actual racing starts. There's supposed to be some pretty badass banshees that run there, I'm anxious to get out and see what kind of numbers this engine can lay down. Thanks for the help guys! Quote
locogato11283 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 That's actually what I planned on buying first... you wont be disappointed. i run the 20 inch ones, but you might wanna try the 22's.. i dont know they hook hard..might need them with ur long swinger.. Quote
bkabina Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 The Kenda sport radials seem to hook like a mother on the hard packed dirt tracks. Quote
blueshee03 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 (edited) i been running ohtsu 501 radials and they hook very hard on almost any surface.there's a lot of guys told me they work great in snow also.turf tamers with every forth row cut work great also. stclark816 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 What about some Pro-Wedges? Quote
bkabina Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I run the pro wedges at the one track we go to.Its a sand dirt mix and the pw work awesome.I would run paddles but the shut down is way to hard packed for them just as alcoholbanshee said.At the other track the dirt is more clay based and too hard for the pw or paddles.I usually run turf tamers with every fourth row cut out, they seem to work better for my set-up.I found out one thing,be prepared to buy alot of tires because there is no one perfect tire for all the diff. types of tracks and chassis set-ups.
