onetwistedaccord Posted August 25, 2005 Author Report Posted August 25, 2005 do u need to split the case or can u just pull the clutch cover and water pump off and remove clutch and the primary gear that is on the crank? And how do u hold the crank from spinning when trying to loosen the nut on the crank? (i dont have the tool in the book) Quote

rzcolobanshee Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 I'm about to replace my crank seal too...I have read of others replacing it without splitting the cases. You will need to put some screws in the existing seal for something to pull it out with, then goober up the new seal with yamabond and it should act as a lubricant so it can slide in...let it dry and you're good to go.... easiest way to get the nut off is with an impact...if you don't have one either put a rope inside the cylinder or put a penny between the clutch gear and the crank gear Quote
2twin350s Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 you have to split the cases. the seal has a lip around the outside diameter that fits in a groove in the engine cases. you have to split the cases to do it correctly. i seen some try to half ass it without splitting the cases and it does not work. by a gasket kit and slpit the cases.
