JJBanshee Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Hey guys, I am new, thanks for all the info shared in the forums. My 01 Shee had 80psi comp so I overhauled top end. Still ran good. cylinders & pistons looked perfect when I took it apart. I put new Wiesco pro lite kit back in std bore had the machine shop hone & check clearances all was good, I put it back together. Now, I still have 80psi comp, wasssup? What should I do next? bigboybanshee Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 I'm gonna jump on this bandwagon and agree with everyone above....I had the same thing happen to me, changed the gauge, compression was right where it needed to be. Also, when you're kicking it over, are you holding the throttle wide open? Are you checking the compression when the cylinders are cold or warm? Quote

Crazy thing is, new top end, same comp And yes it starts and runs fine I will be back tommorow with conclusion..... Quote

fixitrod Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 If you haven't broke in the rings yet the compression will leak past the rings. Run the engine a few heat cycles to make sure the rings are seated ( filed on the hone to the same shape as the cylinder). To test compression the engine should be cold, engine off, throttle open and kick until the gauge doesn't increase any more. If the compression seems low with a good gauge, put a tablespoon of 2 stroke oil in the cylinder. Re-do the compression test. If the numbers improve a lot your rings are not sealing properly. Quote

I like Matco, which is more than $30. Quote

Read the same as Boonmans $150 ... but, when it gets old they don't seem to work very good. The little valve stem things start leaking and sticking. Boonmans will be accurate for a very long time.
