sandman121383 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 anybody that have Shearer pipes have a problem mounting them because the o rings in them make the fit soo tight that they won't slide over the exhaust (manifold) flange at the motor. the o rings i have are an FMF set. they came with 4 springs. are different o rings available? somebody help me out . by the way these babies scream Quote
kenr74 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I had a hell of a time with the same problems you are having. I finally gave up and they leaked pretty bad but they sure pull hard. Quote

sandman121383 Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 (edited) hey oilsmoke, i tried that, i was thinking about using somethin to pry them on with but i'm afraid of denting and scratchin them. i was pushin as hard as i can and they won't go up and over. they're so tight that even if i got them on i have no idea how i'd get them off again. bansheegoof Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 i would first ry them w/no o-ring.if they go on no problem take your o-rings to a tractor sales place(like a place that sells new holland or johndeer or kabota).they have tons of different o-rings and you can get a thinner 1. Quote
Oilsmoke Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I would call Matt at Shearer and or email them ask the what size oring dia to use. I have K&S gasket set and My shear when right on. Maybe the FMF are little bigger dia. Quote
sandman121383 Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 i emailed Shearer a few times and never got a reply. other than goin to a local tractor dealor all i got left to try is an advanced auto that's 10 mins away. so m2orrow i'm gonna go see if they have ne that will work. Quote
Big Blue Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I used stock yamaha o rings and a set from a cometic gasket kit as well, it took quite a bit of wiggling and pushing but they went on. Quote
89Steeda Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I lubed them up real good with grease and the right one went on pretty easy. The left one I greased, then heated with a heat gun and it went on with brute strength. Right one fits great, the left one we shimmed out to miss the head. Most HP inframe pipe we dynoed. Quote
decon Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 anyone know how to fix an exhaust leak? its not on my quad, its my uncles banshee. when we were loading up the quads i noticed alot of stuff around his exhaust on the motor, and i told him you know "you have an exhaust leak". he told me that it's not an exhaust leak, 2 strokes just do that , i just laughed. white trash Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 my shearers went right on . I have a set of the o rings from the Vito's website...Perfect fit Quote
bigscary Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I tried stock yamaha o rings and it was really tight......I put the ones in there that came with a vitos kit and it worked a little better.....but still very tight.... Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Toomey T5 O rings and a touch of antifreeze for lubricity is what I use, they go on with no problem this way. For those with exhaust leak issues at the cyl head, may I suggest using silicone O rings, NOT rubber. Quote
sj820 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 I talked to the guys at Shearer and they said use the stock o-rings. They also said to use the stock springs, hangers and clamps. Personally I would like a different set of clamps. Quote
