stclark816 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 That's really weird.. I got it right, but I only got it right cuz that is in my psychology book. We are studying about memory and perception at the moment and that was an example in the text book. How ironic..... Quote
stclark816 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 The reason behind people not getting the right one correct is because of encoding failure. Unless your a coin collector, you havent ever really studied a penny before. Even though youve handled thousands of pennies, youve only encoded a penny's essential charateristics; color, size, and texture into your long term memory. Quote
BdBanshee Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Wow, I had to look at them for awhile but I got it right by determinining one by one which ones weren't correct. Quote
demonspeeding42069 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 i got it right first try ... but i think thats cuz i love money so much Quote

STLBILL Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Gee, I'm disappointed. Too easy. I was hoping for a twist, but I can't find one. For example: Sometimes the mint makes a mistake and then makes another mistake and lets the messed up coin into circulation. Words can be left off, and sometimes reverse images are created. Pennies are minted in Denver, Philadelphia and San Franciso. If it was minted in Denver there will be a D under the date. San Francisco gets an S. Gues what pennies minted in Philly get? Yup! Nothing. So if you see a penny that says 1966 and a "P" for example a trained numismatic would recognize it as a fake whereas a layperson might not. Another trick would be if it were copper in color but had a date of 1943 or steel in color and had a date other than 1943. -Bill Quote
