murray3 Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 Just wanted to see what everyone out there uses. Quote
blk02banshee Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 I prefer thumb on a quad. I think twist is actually dangerous, but some people like it. I could'nt get used to it. I've had friends, who raced motorcycles their whole lives put twist on their quads, and after a month or so, they switch it back, and say they almost wrecked because of the twist and it scared the shit out of them. Dragg-on Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 putting 16/38 gears and being in 6th gear is dangerous, riding in dunes is dangerous, twist throttle is the least of my worries! sooo twist and shout! Quote
bansheeman1 Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 can you use a twist with the tors? :?: :?: Quote
shee-gurg2k1 Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 I run a twist and love it. You could have motion pro custom make a throttle cable for $40+ so you can keep the TORS or for the same price you could eliminate some junk. Quote
Redracer Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 If you are going to drag race then twist throttle if you are going to do any other sort of riding that involves a lot of turning then stick with the thum throttle turning on a quad with a twist throttle is not a good thing I personally think that the twist throttle is made for dirt bikes Quote
nickxc Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 I used both and I hated my twist and couldn't wait to get back to a thumb throttle. I found the quad out of controle a lot. maybe its just me I dont have much experience on a bike with a twist but I do have a lot of experience on a banshee and I hated that twist. The only thing it was good for is cruising at a medium speed for a long time, you didn't get thumb ache other than that it made everything a lot harder to do. peace Quote
THX-1138 Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 I run a twist on both my quads and have no problom. BUT on my ATC250r it's a differint story. they require soooo much body english that I put the thumb throttle back on. and I have noticed that most the pro mx quad riders use thumb. maybe for saftey reasons. jumping landing coming in contact with other riders. toomeyshee87 Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 ive rode many dirtbikes and one time me and my friend rigged the thumb throttle off my yamaha 125 3 wheeler on his yz 125 and he loved it so much he has a thumb on his bike now...i dont like the twist cuz if you fall off to the side and try to hang on you could twist it and it would be WFO and that would be bad! lata Quote
jrfastbanshee Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 Had a twist on my shee and hit a tree 1st ride on it going over whoops. My body and bars were moving independently and the throttle was all over the place. I seem to have more control with a dirt bike in the whoops. Also...with a dirt bike you lean more to stear....a quad has to have handlebar movement to turn which throws my throttle control off...to each his own I guess...thumbs for me though. Quote
Screamin_Banshee Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 I used both and I hated my twist and couldn't wait to get back to a thumb throttle. I found the quad out of controle a lot. Im with him on this one, I had a twister on my 96, while I loved it for dragging and long wide open cruises, I hated it ANYWHERE else. The bike just felt out of control to me, I switched it back to thumb, and in my opinion it made it a million times better. Quote
thecabinboy Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 Ran over my own leg on my buddy's banshee with a twist. I took a hard left and zoom it jumps up and sucks my leg under. My riding boots (just cheap Elements) saved me, it hurt a bit but didn't break my ankle. Quote
boonman Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 I like my thumb, but I also like my twist. Thumb won out though. I traded my twist away to Nick, and he has done away with it. maybe that throttle is cursed? Quote
Barracuda Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 Ive got a love/hate relationship with my twist. It loves to wheelie up, and i hate when that happens, cause then i try to hang on and end up gassing it! taken a few spills that way, but getting much better. It does keep those people away from riding your bike.. "Sure you can ride it, you are comfortable with a twist, right???" They pass RoostKing... Quote
