Banshee17Racing Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 From my experience, the best way to break 'em in is to simply wear them, around the house, in the garage....eventually they'll be broken in. This isn't the easiest way to do it, but they just form to your legs/feet a little better. Try doing a search, I remember having the same problem and read that you can coat 'em in oil and put them in a black garbage bag to let it sit outside in the sun (I've tried this a couple times w/ my thor boots and I didn't notice a difference). OR you could go buy some Tech 8's! And not worry about breaking them in. Quote
loganskinner Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 yea, lol the tech 8's are the shiz, but BANSHEE17 is right, just wearing them a lot is the only way ive found to break them in. Quote
Otis Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Riding boots were made to be stiff. I have had my Tech 8's for a lil over 2 years, and they (to me) still feel as stiff as the day i got em. You'll never get em (atleast in my experience) as brokin in as an old pair of old sneekers, but who wants flimsy riding boots...The more you wear em, the more used to em you 'll get, and the shifting thing will become 2nd nature to you.....that or you could move your shifter up a little. Mine never did break in completely, but wearing them around the garage helps, I just raised the shifter a notch and learned so shift with my whole leg. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 i just wear mine around. even if its hard to ride thats about the only way to do it. Quote
Lepew Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Like everyone says "Wear them". Walk the track before a practice or race with them. They protect the ankle so they will be stiff there. You will get what you pay for but I like to balance cost with use. The Thor boots I have are taller than most at the toes so I had to raise my shifter one notch to shift. You will have to learn to shift with your leg and might have to sit more to the front. I still fight them in drag races, I some how can't hit fifth every time like a pair of sneakers. Quote
racer Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 yea, lol the tech 8's are the shiz, 345542[/snapback] you should check into the tech 10's. thats a fuckin boot right there. Quote
Guest nightmare Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Somebody told me you can use the oil they use to break in a baseball glove. They said it works very well. Quote
MILO Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 for all the protection they might provide for your shins and ankles, what about your toes. i'd rather wear my steel toe work boots if riding boots having nothing in the toes. Quote
DuneRoller Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Put some saddle soap on them, put em in the sun for awhile, then wear them around. It'll help break them in a litte faster. Quote
t_speaker31 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I dont know if it will work the same but for hockey skates the way we always breakem in is to soak em in as hot of water as you can stand and walk around in em for about half an hour, i did it with my fxr snowmobile boots and it worked the same Quote
03LE Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I stood with my toes on a step (with my ankles off the step) and pushed my ankles down for awhile, and that seemed to help my boots when I got them, other then that I raised my shifter up and notch or two so I could get my boot under it easier Quote
Ducman Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I myself would be more likely to crash and break my neck from missing a shift rather than break my ankle from a crash. But I only ride recreationally, no MX racing. If you can't get the feel for stiff boots then there are boots that have some up down ankle movement but not side to side like Sidi's but they are a bit more expensive. I have 2 pair or sidi street boots, one for the street and one for dirt riding. They are soo comfortable you can wear them to the office all day like shoes, but they are pricy, and not quite as much protection as full on MX boots. Quote
