FireHead Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Has anyone done a clutch cover modification to get at the clutch free play adjustment. I have seen a few guys with holes behind their clutch cover insert, but have no idea what they are sealing it with. If anyone has come up with something please let me know and throw up pictures if you have any. At the very least I could use an idea for something to stick in the hole after I make it. I have thought of cutting an o-ring groove in the back of my cover insert, but I'm not sure that's the best idea. Quote

wesw Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 i know a guy that cut a hole in his also but not 2.5 inch more like 1.5. he used some rtv or silicone to make a gasket around the cover. kinda po dunk but it works Quote

Basically I am looking for a shortcut that doesn't involve purchasing a Direct Drive or Hinson side cover setup, nor am I motivated enough do the make a similair set up myself. Quote

Therefore, "po dunk" or things that require RTV are not what I am shooting for here. All of this is purely spawned from laziness and cheapness. I really don't want to pull the stock cover off and I really don't want to buy a new cover as my biggest hang up with that is actually still pulling the cover off. I could also pull the cover off and go toss it in the HAAS and do basically what Hinson charges $700000 for, but still, I'm lazy. It seems to me that I saw a reputable builder (maybe it was Twister) was doing this modification with some sort of rubber plug that was roughly about 1" in diameter. I just want to know where to get a grooved rubber plug that has a groove thick enough to fit the case but not protrude into the clutch hub. I ran out of ideas for the plug yesterday, now I am frantically searching the internet for the picture of this modification that was not slutty, that I swear I saw. Quote

Right now I am trying to decide if I want to cut an o-ring groove in the insert cover or wander around town trying to fing a rubber plug that would work. If anyone has ideas for a plug I can still use them. Also, if anyone has any recommendations for who to go through to get a lock-up cover and clutch plate, speak up. I can't decide between Direct Drive, Matoon Machine, and Southern Style Racing. This is probably what I will go with in the end. Quote

I had 6 toomey springs in there too. The way the clutch is designed they all will slip, some more than others. I had new fibers and plates with 6 toomey springs. It grabbed awesome, I thought. Then I put the lock up on and now it really grabs!!!! The lock up really helps on good traction terrain. I ride on the street alot and can tell a big difference.
