stealth50 Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 I HAVE BEEN HEARING DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT MILLING .030 OFF MY STOCK HEADS AND HAVING MY FLYWHEEL LIGHTENED. I WAS TOLD I WILL KILL MY POWERBAND IF I LIGHTEN THE FLYWHEEL. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY MILLING MY HEAD I WOULD PUT A TON OF STRESS ON THE LOWER ROD BEARINGS AND THEY WOULD NOT LAST A SEASON WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT. I HAVE A STOCK 94 AND THIS IS ITS FIRST REBUILD. I AM PUTTING ON FMF FATTYS ,MILLING THE HEAD.030,LIGHTENING THE FLYWHEEL,AND ADVANCING THE TIMING +4. HOPING FOR A BIG IMPROVEMENT AND RELIABILITY.SOME GIVE ME THERE INPUT! THANKS! Quote

PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 (edited) these are conservative mods and very good ones to get ,whoever is telling you youlll screw up your bike is moderate to fairly retarded 335838[/snapback] I agree^^^^. Boonmans flywheel is sweet and I couldn't imagine running my shee without the head milled, well I take that last part back now that I have a Noss head. Definately get it done,it'll be some of the best money you've ever spent. Edited March 8, 2005 by PUSH THE THROTTLE Quote
boonman Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Anyone that has told you that it will kill the powerband is stuck on a Honda Odyssey for the last 10 years. Perhaps a Big Red ATC. On a banshee, it actually OPENS up the powerband, and lets you access the power. The bike has a power stroke every 180 degrees of crankshaft rotation, so don't worrry about people telling you that the bike will stall, and you'll lose low end. You won't. Milling the head, ( I grind heads, same difference, but a much better finish..) will get you some compression. Which will increase the kick in the pants across the board. With just these two mods alone, it will feel like a whole different animal. And to put it to the ground, I suggest you get the shift star modded, so you don't skip gears anymore, and so that when you want to get off the bike to wait for your buddies after you smoke 'em, you'll be able to find neutral with the bike running. Either BDBanshee (on the boards here) or myself can do your flywheel for you. I don't know if he does heads or not, but I can do that, as well as mod the shift star. Combined with the pipes, you will have a rippin', very reliable machine. My bike is setup almost identical.... Quote
superdave Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 (edited) So what do you charge to grind the head and lighten the fltwheel..? Edited March 9, 2005 by superdave Quote
05bansh Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 What does modding the shift star do for the bike? This is the first I have heard of this mod... Quote
boonman Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Have you ever been drag racing, or even riding, and you shift the bike, and it kind of "hangs" in between a couple gears? How about trying to find neutral when the bike is running. All this is fixed with a modded star. I now offer brand spankin' new modded stars. Right from Yamaha I get the new star, mod it, and it's ready for sale. So, no more missed shifts, well, a decreased amount by far, and you can find neutral with the bike running. Quote
05bansh Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 So what does modding the star intel? How much do you charge for it? Quote
