05Special Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 my buddy has a 250x 4 wheeler with a blown motor, he has trouble keeping up to the shee (of course) haha but anyways he use to have a 250r and misses the 2 stroke. We were thinking of swapping a 2 stroke in, well not thinking, where gonna do it just a matter of finding the right motor.anybody know info on the swap? if i could find a 250 its be even better but a 125 running for 300 bucks is decent. any info on this would be greatly appreciated.... thanks Quote
rocketboy Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 i would think youd be alot better off witha bigger displacement 2 stroke motor ,the 125cc would struggle ina quad frame and have to be consatntly in top rpm to make the power to propel your ass, plus the tranny and clutch are not of the heavy duty variety that will holdup over time on a 125cc motor ,the 250 is a much better candidate ,my .02 Quote

racer Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 locogato seems to know a thing or two about large late 80's 2 strokes. PM him. or do a search in the image forums for CR500 banshee pics. thats his quad, that he built. hes pretty smart. Quote

racer Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 why a 2 stroke? he may be better off to ditch his 250x and get back into a 250r. Quote
jinx44 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 The 350X transplant would be the easiest swap. Powroll still makes the kit to do it. I have a BB 250X engine for sale. 273cc, 10.5:1 compression, fresh topend, oversize valves, Powroll billet steel cam, RD springs, FTZ ported. Complete engine for sale PM me if interested. Quote

trail rider Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 There is a boy in my welding class who put a yz 490 engine in a blaster. He's a good welder so it wasn't to hard for him to make the engine mounts and stuff. When I first seen it I thought, thats one big blaster motor, Then when I found out that the yz 490 was air cooled, I was like wtf? The two motors almost look exactly the same, except the 490 is alot bigger and has a bigger pipe (almost the same shape too). I haven't seen it run yet, I think he has a few things to fix on the throttle or carbs or somethin? I'm sure it will be one hell of a ride Quote

I almost bought a YZ490 once, they are a hella fast bike. Quote
rocketboy Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 the old 490's have a very small squash band clearance and will grenade topends until you have the head professionally rechambered!!!! just a heads up its a high compression motor stock too! Quote
