anyone know what the LSR axles are made out of?

I have the same question honestly.

There is one way to find out but I don't have the cash to do it. Its a gas chromatograph (I think thats the name) The vaporize a small piece of the metal in question and analyze the gas. Then once you did that you'd have to have a heat treater tell you the Rockwell Hardness of the axle so you 'd know how far to take it in heat treat.

Theres a place here that does it but I'm not curious enough yet to have it done.

i know their made of metal...i kind of set myself up for that one asking such a blunt question, but i meant exactly what kind, or is it top secrect like the RPM website says their axle material is

yea CEJ , i know about the gas chromatograph, im learning about that in college right now...wish i was already out in the workforce coulld probably get that done for free if i had a buddy in the lab. Reason i asked is my buddy took it upon himself to make an axle jus to see, he copied my durablue and made one and it fit and rode well but i wouldnt jump with it, hence the reason im askin this question to find out what they do to make their axles so strong and he could make me one.....

Another way you can find out what its made out of is with sound waves. There is some fancy instrument that does it. It basically puts different sound waves through the material and sees how long it takes for the waves to go through the material and what waves bounce back. Basically tells you density of the material and some other basic stuff which is used to determine the material.

If I had one to test I could take it to the stress labs at school and find the yield strength and proportional limit of the material and tell you what it is. But they aren't something that grows on trees... lol

Why don't you just email them and ask LSR what they are made out of? My personal opinion is that they are made of wood or cheese, which are both excellent engineering materials.

the lsr axle is a softer metal than the durablue which allows it to flex and go back to shape, or just bend instead of break like durablue

I'm guessing that it's considered proprietary information and they won't tell you.

Thats what I'm thinking. The material must be springy with a high yeild strength. I'm thinking either 1144 or 4340. Have no idea on the hardness though.
