2k4_Shee Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 (edited) Im a complete n00b when it comes to modding a shee but i have been reading up here lately and would like to see your opinions on this set-up. 2004 banshee with T5 pipes and silencers, 13 front / 42 rear sprockets, v force reeds, new tires ( i-razrs, or similar ) +4 degree key, a new air filter (not sure which one just yet) , and lightened flywheel,...To me it sounds lgood but im here to find out from the pro's so lets hear your suggestions or comments... Also i ride trails, climb hills, open fields, hard and soft pack conditions...Precciate It.. Edited January 14, 2005 by 2k4_Shee Quote
banshee76179 Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Everything sounds good, except for the 13... I'd go with 14 up front...just me though.. And, Id go with K&N air filter... Quote
sredish Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 IMO That gearing is way too low for trails, and way way too low for open fields and way way way freaking too low for hill climbs. You'll be shifting like friggin mad with that gearing. One thing you do not want to do hillclimbing is shifting if you can help it. While you can't help it, you can sure stretch them out. Shifting slows forward motion. You'll be shifting in the trails like mad too. It doesn't sound like you have tried it, so take it from me, gearing down will limit your top end and your acceleration, while making you spin tires like mad. With T5's and the riding your describing, I'd say 15/41 without question. I guarantee that if you tried both, the 15/41 would stay. Quote
2k4_Shee Posted January 14, 2005 Author Report Posted January 14, 2005 (edited) is there really a better aftermarket air filter set-up, i mean i know they have clamp ons, 2 into 1, but what works good... I try to avoid mud and amounts of water at all cost but sometimes u cant help it, k&n w/ outerwear... **On a side note the +4 degree key should be just fine on a stock shee, right? SICK BOY Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 I've used K&N filters, but in real dusty conditions I prefer a foam Uni filter. Quote
banshdog Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 I agree with the above, gearing is gonna be too low. I would stay with the stock 14/41, see how you like that. Personally I am gonna try out a 15/41. also with the filters, if you are gonna hit any mud or water you are gonna want at least the bottom half of the air box in place for protection. just my opinion, do whatever you want. you can always change it later Quote

kw04 Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 why dont you also use the adjustable timing plate instead of the degree key. i hear those keys suck and can even break. Quote
KRMit Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 I agree with the 14/42 gearing. I would recommend the ProFlow air filter setup. You can keep your airbox and ditch the lid if you'd like. Quote

2k4_Shee Posted January 14, 2005 Author Report Posted January 14, 2005 so the stock 14/41 is better than the 15/41 ? Quote
KRMit Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 so the stock 14/41 is better than the 15/41 ? 306768[/snapback] Depends on what you're doing. As long as you don't go crazy and put a 12t sprocket on a ported stroker, or a 19t on a stock Shee I don't think there is a bad or good ratio. You just have to try different sizes and find what works for you. I'd probably stick with 14/41 on a stock motor myself... unless you're drag racing, then maybe a 15/41. Quote
