go with 12/42 for trail riding ,best set up yet  :bolt:

I got my shee with a 12/41 and threw that 12 away. 15/40 is what I run now and it's so much faster through the trails. With a twelve you shift all the time and spin the tires more with the 15 you shift half as much and hook up soo much better. My .02

Way, way way way way way way too low for trails. Too much shifting. I ran 16/41 through the trails and I loved it. I used to run 12/41. Really, I think the key to banshees is the taller gearing. If you got the shit to pull it anyway. Im running 16/44 right now. I like it.

Get ya a 13 and slap it on there. You can get one from RMATV for about $10. Some people will like lower gearing, some won't. Higher gearing is better for drag racing, but in the woods... I'm not sure. It'll just be trial and error.

I had 13/44 gearing and could pop it up in any gear (although 6th took some effort).  It definately helps with wheelies.

Thats what I run, except I still have 20" tires. Which makes it a bitch for drag racing. I can rev and dump in 3rd gear. That might be an indication I'm under geared a bit. BUT I plan on up grading to 22" rears soon, which would bring me back to a nearly stock ratio.

Its a wheeling bastard. On pavement with a little body english I can pull the wheels off the ground in 4th. Starting out in first on pavement is kind of a joke really. Shift as quick as you can stab the throttle.

I thought that too... so when I lined up for a race I popped the clutch in 2nd. I let off of it pretty quick. I guess starting in second would work as long as you feathered the clutch. Nobody will race me on pavement so I don't have much experience. The 4 stroke guys know they'd lose their holeshot advantage. With my Razrs I'm dropping the clutch in 3rd in sand. That's with 14/44 gearing. I'm about to go to 14/40.

There was one time 3 of us lined up to race on some dried lake bed. I let it fly in 2nd, and smacked the grab bar in the dirt. My buddies wife cut in front of me off the start, but then let off the gas. If I would have been a second slower on the brake, I would have brought the front end down on her head.

When I launch in 3rd it hits hard, then bogs a little sometimes. Sometimes its enough to get me a decent launch, but then I have to double clutch it a bit to get it to take off again without stalling. Occasionally it will hit hard in 3rd, and spin the wheels enough in the sand that I only have to shift once in the middle, and maybe again towards the end of the run. If I start in 2nd, I feel like I spend all my time shifting, and if I start in 1st I do spend all my time shifting.

Also with that gearing I got a top end speed of 63 in sand, on a radar gun. Everyone else that weekend was in the low to mid 70's.

You really need to try both out and see what you like. Sand you can run lower and benefit because you have plenty of traction from paddles. On dirt spinning the tires doesn't get you moving as well so gear up.

I have a question.... I have 22" rears and stock gearing, I want alot more low end grunt for MX and trails, what should I get?? I opened the spread sheet and I noticed it lower the front , the lower the speed... Will going down a tooth in the front and up a tooth in the rear give more power to the wheels on the low side or just make me shifter more?? Will doing this relieve alot of the clutching I have to do in the turns?? THANKS

True dat! <_<

I ran 13/40 for a bit and was basically limited to mx tracks and some tight trails. But did you ever get going really fast umm really fast  There was no room for error when shifting in a drag. Basically leave your damn foot on the shifter and your fingers on the clutch lever and keep pullin and kickin for gears for about five seconds and your red lining like a mofo!
