Stator Question

I guess the previous owner had some water inside the stator cover becasue everything is all rusted. I have an adjustable timing plate im trying to install but all the phillips head screws connecting the stator and the magnet to the stock plate on it are stripping out because they are rusted in. I put on some liquid wrench and Even an impact strips them. So I figured I could just grind the head off and order some new screws from Yamaha but then I looked in riva and they only sell the stator assembly, not the screws alone. Does anyone know where I can find these screws? Thanks guys

Its not for the side cover though, its for the stator and stock plate.

Try a local hardware or auto parts store. I know there's a place in town here that sells only nuts and bolts(McFaddens). Maybe you guys have something like that there.

Try Ebay, there's a few people that have screw kits for sale. As a last resort you could bring the screw down to the dealer and see if they have any misc screws laying around, You may have to cut it down to size, but.....

I've had great luck with letting penetrating oil do its penetrating then hitting the head in the center with a small punch a few times.

drill a little hole in the bottom of the cover to prevent water from being traped I did this along time ago it seem to work well I adjust my plate every know and then so far good luck no rust

just go to your local hardware store+get three .6mm+1.00 thread pitch fasteners aprox 5/8 long.these are the same scews the are in the motor side covers just shorter.if thats not possible send me your addy+i'll mail you 3.

When you put it back together, just seal up the hole where the wires come through with silicone. Make sure the stock rubber seal goes on the cover right and screw the cover on tight with some allen head stainless screws. No more water. I like riding in water and I never see water in my cover. I use to before siliconing the hole.

Everyone on here has had trouble with those stock screws on sidecovers and everywhere else, to remove them the right way you need an impact driver. It is a tool with screwdriver bits and you hit it with a hammer. I bought one from harbor freight for 8 bucks and it does the trick.
