BigRed350x Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Do you think a Buell V-Twin motor would fit in an ATV chassis? Saw a wrecked bike for a decent price, was wondering about putting the engine in an ATV frame, but it looked a little tall. Keep in mind that I have very limited welding skillz, so I'm looking at very limited mods to the frame. The bike is ona dees: http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/firebolt/ Quote
racer Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 if your gonna do a v-twin, watch out for the motor from a honda RC-51. wow is an understatement. Quote
Otis Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 I wouldnt use a buell motor to wipe with...but thats just me.... Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 18, 2004 Author Report Posted December 18, 2004 I didn't ask what you thought about the motor, I asked if anyone thought it would fit in an ATV chassis. If you can't answer the question don't post. Jack Off Quote
Otis Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 (edited) Dude grow up, it wasnt a personal stab at you... Ok so maybe my reply wasnt nessary, but still, lighten up a little.... i'm sorry you were butt hurt by what i said... edit: and yes, with some fab work, just about any bike motor can stuffed into an ATV frame Edited December 18, 2004 by Otis Quote
PolyKarbon Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 HAHAHAHA! I can't help you but I'm going to post anyway. Quote
BenBB Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Damn, Buell has come a long way, those bikes look sick. BigRed I remember seeing an HD 1200cc sportster v-twin in a 250R frame once, it was built for ice racing. Like Otis said you can shove anything you want in a quad frame but no matter what it is it won't be easy...cool yes, and no doubt fun to ride but not easy. That particular motor would be one of the harder ones as well, with right-side belt drive you're looking at significant swingarm mods on top of motor mounting and routing the exhaust... Quote
SICK BOY Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 You can make anything work if you have the time and money. Quote
sanddevil111 Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 screw all that why dont you just go straight for ducati 996..998...or 999...those are understatements... but that rc 51 is a bad ass fuckin motor too Quote
Ducman Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 A Harly/Buel v-twin would overheat really fast if you used it for a atv. I'd use it for drag runs only. For any kind of a recreation bike, I'd look for a water cooled motor, you can always keep them cool with a bigger radiator and a fan. Although, my 996 gets damb hot on a 90 degree day when I get stopped in traffic for any time at all. Quote
SandShooter Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 A guy at work put a TL1000 engine in a banshee with very little frame mods. This bike is insane, 130hp and 13,000 rpm. Anyone that goes to Glamis may have seen it, its all flat black and loud as heck. Quote
